What’s burning in Brunswick County? The incident is the Quarry Road #2 Fire, near Bricklanding Road and Old Georgetown Road in the Shallotte area. In its latest located update, published October 2, 2026, Brunswick County reported the fire at about 26.2 acres and 30% contained as of 10 a.m. The county said previous evacuation orders had been lifted and roads were open at that time. This is a dated update, not a live status.
Latest reported status
Brunswick County attributed the latest acreage and containment figures to the North Carolina Forest Service. The county said improved mapping revised the earlier estimate.

What happened and when
October 1: Lakewood Estates evacuation and initial estimate
At 7:10 p.m. on October 1, the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office issued an alert saying residents in Lakewood Estates, off Ocean Isle Beach Road, were being evacuated and should follow directions from emergency personnel. At 9:35 p.m., the county estimated the fire at about 50 acres; it said no official containment percentage was available then. The county also reported heavy smoke and no injuries or structural damage.

October 2: revised mapping and lifted orders
By 10 a.m. October 2, Forest Service mapping put the fire at about 26.2 acres and 30% contained, as reported by the county. The update said previous evacuation orders had been lifted, roads were open, smoke could linger, and the cause remained unknown. A county alert page recorded Update #2 at 4:43 p.m. that day, repeating the incident report.
The October 1 figure was an earlier estimate; the October 2 acreage reflects the county-reported mapping update. Do not treat the earlier estimate as the latest size.

What to do if you are nearby
- Follow instructions from emergency personnel if you are in an affected area. Do not rely on an older report if officials issue new directions.
- Stay away from the fire area if you do not live there, so firefighters and other emergency crews can work safely.
- Check Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office channels for current road closures or traffic diversions. Roads were open in the October 2 update, but the county said closures or diversions could be made if needed.
- Use caution if smoke has drifted across your route; the county advised considering an alternative route. Flames may still be visible, particularly at night.
- Call 9-1-1 if you feel unsafe.
- Do not fly a drone near or over a wildfire. Brunswick County warns that doing so is illegal in North Carolina and can endanger firefighting aircraft and people on the ground.

- Open Brunswick County’s incident news page and alert page for the latest county notices and their timestamps.
- For mapped acreage and containment, use the county-linked N.C. Forest Service Wildfire Public Viewer.
- For road closures, check Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office social media or mobile app, as the county advises.
Do not confuse this with the earlier Quarry Road Fire
Quarry Road #2 is distinct from the earlier Quarry Road Fire reported in July. The North Carolina Forest Service listed that separate fire at 283 acres and 100% contained on August 6, 2026.
