A screenshot can show a benchmark time, but not the conditions needed to interpret it. The cited tutorial presents csperf as a command-line workflow for recording those conditions in a structured performance artifact. Share that artifact with your claim so teammates can inspect the run context instead of judging a single number in isolation.
Why a benchmark screenshot is incomplete
A timing screenshot captures an observation, not necessarily the circumstances that produced it. Hardware, operating system, compiler version and flags, backend, warm-up policy, repeat count, and the spread between runs can all affect how a result should be read. If those details are missing, a displayed time is difficult to assess or reproduce.
The tutorial puts the distinction this way: “The screenshot is the observation; the artifact is the full experimental protocol.” That is the tutorial’s phrasing, not a statement attributed to a named individual.
What the tutorial’s csperf workflow does
A DEV Community tutorial describes csperf as a way to run a benchmark and save a structured artifact. Its example uses JSON for recorded run context, CSV as a tabular view, and an HTML report for visualization. These are capabilities described by that tutorial; current behavior has not been independently established from official documentation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Example commands from the tutorial
The page demonstrates installing the package and running a C++ example with a CPU backend, one warm-up, five repeated runs, and JSON output:
pip install csperf
csperf run <C++ example> --backend cpu --warmup 1 --runs 5 --output results.json
csperf visualize results.json
The placeholders and option names above convey the tutorial’s described workflow; check the package’s current documentation before relying on exact syntax. The tutorial does not establish current package maintenance, supported platforms, or command compatibility.

Choose an artifact format for the task
- JSON: the tutorial describes it as preserving machine, compiler, and metric context in a structured file.
- CSV: the tutorial presents it as a tabular view that can be inspected or used for comparisons.
- HTML: the tutorial uses it as a human-oriented report view generated from the saved result.
How to share and compare results responsibly
- Record the run rather than only capturing its output. Include the warm-up policy and repeated-run settings used for the measurement.
- Keep the artifact with the project. The tutorial recommends storing result files in a version-controlled directory so the recorded data can travel with the code and discussion.
- Publish the artifact beside the claim. When posting “this change is faster,” attach or link the corresponding file and explain what the measured result represents.
- Inspect the conditions before comparing. Check machine and hardware identity, operating system, compiler and flags, backend, warm-up policy, repeat count, and the distribution or spread of measurements.
- When comparing compiler choices, record each run separately. The tutorial suggests comparing runs made with different compilers, but compiler name alone does not control the other conditions.
These fields are necessary context, not proof that two runs are directly comparable. In particular, different machines or uncontrolled environments can limit what a side-by-side comparison establishes.
How to read the tutorial’s sample numbers
The tutorial reports one example run using an AMD Ryzen 7 9700X and clang++ 18.1.3, with one warm-up and five repeated runs. It gives an execution-time mean of 5.1714 ms, a minimum of 5.161 ms, and a maximum of 5.191 ms. The page is dated Sep 27, but its returned header does not show a year.

Those figures are the tutorial’s reported example output, not an independent measurement, a benchmark of csperf itself, or a general baseline for other systems. Their useful lesson is that a run can include more than one timing value and can be read alongside setup details—not that another machine should achieve the same times.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the artifact can—and cannot—establish
A structured file makes run details easier to share and inspect than a cropped timing image. It helps a reviewer ask whether the setup and measurement policy fit the claim. It does not, by itself, guarantee a fair experiment, eliminate environmental variation, or make results from different hardware equivalent.
