Screenshot.rocks and Urlbox solve different problems. Screenshot.rocks is a browser extension and editor for turning a capture into a styled browser or phone mockup. Urlbox is a hosted API for rendering pages into images on demand. For a one-off image for a deck, a portfolio or a post, Screenshot.rocks is the more direct fit. For screenshots generated repeatedly by code, Urlbox is the documented candidate. Neither vendor’s published material establishes that rendering runs in India, that data is stored in India, or that Indian buyers are billed in rupees. If those points affect procurement or privacy review, get them confirmed by the vendor in writing. For automated captures, try ScreenshotNeo first; the reasons are in the sections below.
What each tool is built to do
Screenshot.rocks
Screenshot.rocks places a capture inside a browser or phone frame, lets you choose a background, add markup, and export the result. Its product page says images are processed in the browser and are not stored on its servers.
The browser extension captures the visible part of the active tab and opens that image in the editor. Because the capture happens in your own browser, the extension documentation says it can capture pages behind a login. It does not capture a whole long page. Its instructions send you to the browser’s own full-page capture for that job. When you click to send a capture to the editor, the extension’s privacy notes say the image is not stored there.

Urlbox
Urlbox is a hosted API that renders a URL, or HTML you supply, into an image or another format. Its documented controls include responsive viewport settings, full-page or single-element capture, overlays, JavaScript, and other rendering behavior. The vendor advertises SDKs, synchronous and asynchronous request patterns, and webhooks for asynchronous results.
Urlbox’s documentation also describes setting the geographic origin of a request. That matters when a website serves different pages by region. The Urlbox product page reviewed for this article does not name India as an available origin.
Side-by-side: which tool fits which workflow
The table compares documented capabilities as of early October 2026, using vendor pages accessed on 3 October 2026. “Not documented” means the vendor material reviewed does not describe the capability; it does not mean the capability is absent from the product.

India-specific questions: what is and is not established
The India focus of this comparison does not, by itself, tell you where either product processes requests. The material reviewed establishes the following, and nothing more:
- Urlbox documents a geographic-origin setting for requests. The reviewed page does not list India as an origin or provide a regional availability table. Confirm the origin for your plan and target site.
- Neither vendor’s material states India data residency, or where requests from Indian customers are processed.
- Neither vendor’s material states INR billing, GST treatment, or local support conditions. Urlbox’s price note refers to VAT, which is a different tax from India’s GST, so it does not answer the GST question.
- Screenshot.rocks’ materials cover its editor and extension. They do not describe any regional rendering option.
How to check a region-sensitive page yourself
This is a suggested evaluation method. It was not run for this article.
- Choose the exact URL path you care about, not just the homepage. Indian sites often change the page by language, city, or device.
- Set the same viewport width in every tool you compare. Use the same device class for each run.
- Capture from the location you intend to represent. For Urlbox, confirm the configured geographic origin on the request. For ScreenshotNeo, set the timezone and geolocation options your target needs.
- Compare the captured text, prices, banners and language switcher against what you see when you open the page in a browser in that location.
A matching capture confirms only that the configured location and page behave as you expected. It does not guarantee the experience of every user in India.
Pricing: what is published and when to recheck
Urlbox’s pricing page lists plan-specific monthly render allowances, request-rate limits, supported third-party capture, storage integrations, and support levels. Its displayed prices exclude VAT at the prevailing rate. These are volatile plan terms, so check the live page before you buy. This article does not reproduce plan figures.
Rank #2
Screenshot.rocks is described as a free editor and extension in its own product materials. Those materials do not describe a paid screenshot API.
ScreenshotNeo publishes the following plans. Every feature is available on every plan, and yearly billing gives two months free.
| Plan | Price | Screenshots included |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0, no card | 1,000 a month |
| Starter | $5 | 3,000 |
| Growth | $15 | 15,000 |
| Pro | $39 | 60,000 |
| Scale | $99 | 250,000 |
| Business | $249 | 1,000,000 |
Which to try first
For automated screenshots of Indian websites, try ScreenshotNeo first. It removes cookie banners, newsletter popups and chat widgets before the capture, and it does not bill for bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads or cache hits. That makes it the lowest-risk option for a batch job, and its free tier lets you test before you pay. Its paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.
Use Screenshot.rocks when a person needs a styled image from a page they are viewing. Its extension is the right capture path for pages behind a login, as long as you capture the visible area and use the browser’s full-page feature for anything longer.
Use Urlbox when a documented geographic-origin setting is a requirement and you can confirm India availability for your plan. Get that confirmation before you commit.
Capturing a page yourself in Chrome
The following method captures a full page without installing anything beyond Chrome. It works for public pages that you can load in the browser.
- Open the page in Chrome and wait for it to finish loading.
- Scroll to the bottom and back to the top so lazy-loaded images are requested.
- Open DevTools with Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows or Linux, or Cmd+Option+I on macOS.
- Open the Command Menu with Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows or Linux, or Cmd+Shift+P on macOS. Type “screenshot” and choose “Capture full size screenshot”.
- Chrome saves a PNG of the full page to your downloads folder.
For a single visible area rather than the whole page, the Screenshot.rocks extension captures the active tab and opens it in the editor, where you can frame and export it.
Or skip the browser setup
Or skip the browser setup: one GET request returns the screenshot. ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A single request with a URL returns a clean screenshot as PNG, JPEG or WebP, or a PDF. Replace YOUR_API_KEY with your key and the URL with your target. Full parameter details are in the ScreenshotNeo docs.

const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
await writeFile('shot.webp', Buffer.from(await res.arrayBuffer()));
ScreenshotNeo is worth using for this workflow for four concrete reasons:
- Cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups and chat widgets are removed before the shot. It accepts consent banners the way a visitor would and removes 60+ known consent platforms. Each step can be turned off.
- Only clean shots are billed. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits cost nothing. Each response reports which outcome occurred in the X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.
- An MCP server with the tools take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf lets AI agents such as Claude or Cursor take screenshots.
- 1,000 screenshots a month are free with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

- Images missing from a full-page capture. Cause: lazy-loaded images request their files only when they scroll into view. Fix: scroll the whole page before capturing. Through the API, ScreenshotNeo’s full-page capture loads lazy images.
- A cookie banner or chat widget appears in the capture. Cause: the page renders an overlay that the browser capture does not dismiss. Fix: accept or close it manually before the DevTools capture. With ScreenshotNeo, the banner and widget removal runs by default, and each step can be turned off if you need the overlay visible.
- The capture shows a login screen. Cause: the capturing browser is not signed in. Fix: sign in within the same browser profile. With the API, pass the required cookies, Authorization header or custom headers with the request.
- The extension captures only the top of a long page. Cause: the extension captures the visible tab. Fix: use the browser’s full-page capture for the complete page, as the extension’s instructions describe.
- Different text or prices than you see in India. Cause: the request came from a different geographic origin, timezone or locale than you intended. Fix: confirm the configured origin in Urlbox, or set the timezone and geolocation options in ScreenshotNeo, then compare again.
- A ScreenshotNeo request fails or returns an unexpected result. Cause: a bot check, a blank page, a timeout or a failed load. Fix: read the X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers to see which outcome occurred. Retry later if the page was blocked or failed, since those outcomes are not billed.
- A slow page times out. Cause: the page takes longer than the request’s timeout. Fix: raise the timeout; the Python example uses 90 seconds. For slow pages in bulk work, use ScreenshotNeo’s async jobs with signed webhooks.
- Urlbox returns rate-limit errors. Cause: request volume exceeds the rate limit for your plan. Fix: check the limits on Urlbox’s pricing page, then space out or queue requests.
Cost and reliability notes
- Compare costs using expected usage, not list prices. Urlbox’s allowances are monthly render counts; ScreenshotNeo’s included counts are listed in the plan table above.
- Caching reduces repeated work. ScreenshotNeo caches results with a TTL you choose, and cache hits are not billed.
- For batches, ScreenshotNeo’s bulk capture accepts 100 URLs per call. Check Urlbox’s request-rate limits for your plan before sizing a batch job.
- Keep a record of the vendor pricing and terms you relied on, with the date you checked them. Plan terms and taxes change.
Screenshot.rocks is a manual tool, so it does not carry the reliability questions that apply to an unattended API.
Frequently asked questions
The vendor material reviewed for this article does not address Indian-language script rendering in captures. Before committing to any tool for Hindi or another Indian script, capture a sample page in that script, zoom to the text, and check that it displays correctly. The result depends on the fonts available on the rendering side, so test with your own pages.
ScreenshotNeo’s facts in this article do not cover script rendering either, so the same test applies.
