Short answer: A full-page screenshot does not necessarily cost more than a viewport screenshot. ScreenshotOne lists full-page capture on its paid plans without showing a separate full-page surcharge; its pricing is based on monthly screenshot allowances and overage rates. That is a provider-specific policy, not an industry-wide rule. Compare billing terms as well as capture controls before choosing an API.

What is the difference between a viewport and a full-page screenshot?

A viewport screenshot captures the content visible inside the browser window at the configured dimensions. ScreenshotOne documents a default viewport of 1280 × 1024 pixels, adjustable with width and height options. A full-page capture extends beyond that visible area to include more of the document. In ScreenshotOne, set full_page=true; it defaults to false. Its documentation describes the browser viewport as “the window area where you can see the web content.” ScreenshotOne capture options

Full-page output can involve more than taking a taller picture: ScreenshotOne says full-page mode automatically enables scrolling unless overridden, which can help trigger lazy-loaded images. Its documentation also describes a section-by-section full-page algorithm. These behaviors matter when pages load content as the visitor scrolls.

Does full-page capture cost more?

ScreenshotOne’s listed pricing page includes full-page screenshots on Basic, Growth, and Scale, but does not state a separate full-page price. Its published plan economics are expressed as monthly screenshot allowances and overage fees. This supports a narrow conclusion about ScreenshotOne only; other APIs may price capture modes differently.

The figures below are a vendor-published pricing snapshot, not market averages. Prices exclude VAT, and availability or terms may change, so check ScreenshotOne’s live pricing page before committing.

ScreenshotOne plan Listed monthly price Included screenshots Requests per minute Extra screenshot Full-page listed
Free Free Up to 100 per month Not stated Not stated Not stated
Basic $17/month 2,000 40 $0.009 Yes
Growth $79/month 10,000 80 $0.006 Yes
Scale $259/month 50,000 150 $0.004 Yes

ScreenshotOne says failed requests with HTTP, browser, or network errors do not count, and cached responses served from cache do not count. A cache miss can initiate a render that counts. A successfully rendered image can still count even if it has visual problems.

How to compare screenshot API pricing fairly

Do not compare only the headline monthly price. Estimate your expected number of renders, check whether you need full-page or viewport-only images, and confirm how the provider bills failures and cache hits. Also compare the controls that determine whether the output is usable.

  • Capture mode: Verify that full-page capture is included and whether element or clipped-region capture is available if you need only part of a page.
  • Page loading: Check how the API handles scrolling, lazy-loaded images, waits, and long pages. A nominally cheaper capture is not useful if important content has not loaded.
  • Viewport and device controls: Compare adjustable dimensions and device scale options when responsive layout or pixel density matters.
  • Volume and rate limits: Match included monthly renders and requests per minute to both total use and peak demand.
  • Usage accounting: Read the rules for errors, cache hits, cache misses, and successful captures with visual defects.

Browserless documents full-page mode, viewport dimensions, image format, device scale factor, clip rectangles, and selector-based element capture. The available material does not establish a comparable current Browserless price schedule, so a direct price comparison is not possible from these figures. Browserless screenshot documentation

ScreenshotNeo: an alternative to try first

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. It is worth trying first when you want clean captures: it accepts cookie and consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Only clean shots are billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing.

Its plans include 1,000 shots per month free with no card, then $5 for 3,000, $15 for 15,000, $39 for 60,000, $99 for 250,000, or $249 for 1,000,000; yearly billing gives two months free. Every feature is on every plan. An MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and any MCP client.

For API details and available options, see the ScreenshotNeo documentation. Keep API credentials out of public client-side code and use HTTPS for requests; ScreenshotOne likewise warns that unencrypted HTTP can expose API keys, authorization headers, cookies, and other sensitive data in transit.
