There is no single best Scrape.do alternative. Pick a direct API such as ScrapingBee, ZenRows, or ScraperAPI when you need a request endpoint; choose Apify when you need reusable Actors and scheduled workflows; and evaluate Bright Data or Oxylabs when managed access, geography, and scale justify more infrastructure. Test each service against your own target domains, rendering requirements, extraction method, effective cost, and compliance terms before switching.

This comparison separates vendor-reported capabilities from independently comparable evidence. Prices, credits, limits, endpoints, and benchmark results change, so confirm commercial details on each provider’s current site.

Start with the workflow, not the vendor name

Scrape.do is commonly evaluated as a managed scraping endpoint: you send a URL and receive page content while the service handles some combination of rendering, proxies, geotargeting, and anti-bot access. An alternative is suitable only if it solves the same problem or a clearly defined larger one.

  1. Define the output. Raw HTML, rendered HTML, screenshots, structured fields, a ready-made scraper, and a recurring data pipeline are different products.
  2. List the difficult domains. Record JavaScript-heavy pages, login flows, region-specific content, rate limits, bot checks, and CAPTCHA challenges.
  3. Set operational requirements. Decide the required concurrency, latency, retry behavior, storage, scheduling, observability, and retention period.
  4. Measure effective cost. Include rendering or premium-access multipliers, proxy or bandwidth charges, failed-request rules, storage, and engineering time—not only the advertised starting price.
  5. Check procurement constraints. Verify data-processing terms, acceptable-use rules, certifications, geographic restrictions, and support commitments directly with the provider.

Run a like-for-like pilot on the domains that matter to you. Success rates from different studies use different providers, target sets, dates, and definitions; combining them into one league table produces a misleading result.

Shortlist: what each Scrape.do alternative is for

Option Best fit Capabilities reported by the cited sources Questions to verify before purchase
ScrapingBee A direct API for rendered pages and targeted extraction Firecrawl’s roundup describes browser rendering, proxy rotation, geotargeting, extraction rules, and dedicated search and e-commerce endpoints. Current credit multipliers, browser limits, endpoint coverage, CAPTCHA behavior, and live pricing. Firecrawl’s price snapshot was dated August 2026.
ZenRows A direct API alternative when you want a managed request pipeline Included as a direct API alternative in Apify’s roundup. Current rendering modes, anti-bot features, credit consumption, concurrency, extraction options, and price.
ScraperAPI A direct endpoint with access-management features Apify’s roundup describes CAPTCHA handling, JavaScript rendering, proxy management, and targeted endpoints. Which targets and endpoints support those features today, how retries and unsuccessful calls are billed, and current plan limits.
Apify Reusable, hosted automation rather than a single request endpoint Apify’s alternative coverage highlights its Actors marketplace, cloud infrastructure, proxy features, storage, and scheduling. The selected Actor’s maintenance and cost terms, run and storage charges, concurrency, data retention, and how much custom code you must own.
Bright Data Larger or more involved extraction programs Bright Data describes managed proxy rotation, JavaScript rendering, CAPTCHA handling, session management, and structured output. Its 2026 article reports a network of 400M+ real residential IPs across 195 countries; that is a vendor-reported figure, not an independent count. Traffic and feature pricing, contractual terms, regional availability, compliance documentation, and the exact product that supplies structured data.
Oxylabs Teams evaluating bandwidth-based proxy economics Included in Scrape.do and Apify alternative coverage. Current bandwidth rates, rendering and API scope, concurrency, support, and the total cost for your request pattern. Do not infer cost or capability from a competitor comparison alone.
ScreenshotNeo Visual page capture, PDFs, and agent-operated screenshots—not field extraction A website screenshot API and MCP server with consent-banner and widget cleanup, browser controls, PDF output, and image formats. Whether a screenshot or PDF is actually the required output. It is not a replacement for an HTML or structured-data scraper.

Direct API alternatives

ScrapingBee

ScrapingBee is the closest conceptual fit when your application already has a request queue and needs an API response. The capabilities attributed to Firecrawl’s roundup—browser rendering, proxy rotation, geotargeting, extraction rules, and search or e-commerce endpoints—cover more than simply downloading static HTML. That breadth can reduce custom browser code, but it also makes the credit model important. A rendered request, a geolocated request, and an extraction request may not consume the same allowance.

Use it when you can express the job as “fetch this URL with these parameters and return content or fields.” Before migrating, test pagination, redirects, login state, regional results, and pages that trigger bot checks. Treat Firecrawl’s August 2026 price snapshot as historical context, not a current quote.

ZenRows

ZenRows appears in Apify’s roundup as a direct API alternative. Its appeal is the same narrow operational model: your code owns URL selection and downstream parsing while the provider supplies managed access. The available evidence does not establish a current feature matrix or price, so verify rendering modes, proxy geography, CAPTCHA behavior, credit rules, concurrency, and extraction support in the live documentation before selecting it.

ScraperAPI

Apify’s roundup lists ScraperAPI and describes CAPTCHA handling, JavaScript rendering, proxy management, and targeted endpoints. Those features make it a candidate for applications that need a familiar HTTP interface but encounter protected or dynamic pages. Ask for the exact billing treatment of retries, failed loads, browser rendering, and targeted endpoints. Confirm that the endpoint you intend to use supports your regions and session requirements rather than assuming every feature applies to every plan.

Platform and infrastructure alternatives

Apify: choose it for repeatable automation

Apify is a platform-style alternative. Its Actors marketplace can provide ready-made scrapers, while its cloud infrastructure, storage, proxy features, and scheduling support recurring jobs. This is useful when the workflow includes discovery, pagination, transformation, persistence, and scheduled reruns—not just one HTTP request.

The trade-off is operational ownership. An Actor may be maintained by a third party, have its own input schema and pricing, or require customization for your target. Evaluate the selected Actor, not only the Apify brand: inspect its run cost, storage use, update history, output format, failure handling, and concurrency. A small custom API call can be cheaper and easier to reason about for a narrow pipeline; a maintained Actor can save engineering time when the workflow is broad or recurring.

Bright Data: consider it for managed access at larger scope

Bright Data positions its products for more involved extraction, describing managed proxy rotation, JavaScript rendering, CAPTCHA handling, session management, and structured output. Those capabilities can matter when you need several geographies, durable sessions, or data delivered in a defined schema.

Its 2026 comparison article reports “400M+ real residential IPs across 195 countries.” Keep that attribution attached: it is Bright Data’s own network figure, not an independently verified measurement. The same article discusses two different benchmark sources—the Proxyway 2025 Web Scraping API Report, which covered 11–12 providers and 15 protected websites, and a Scrape.do benchmark. Their samples and methods are distinct, so their results should not be merged into a universal ranking.

For enterprise procurement, request current data-processing terms, certifications, subprocessor information, retention rules, and regional controls. Product capability does not by itself establish that a deployment meets your legal or contractual obligations.

Oxylabs: model the bandwidth, not the headline

Oxylabs is included in alternative coverage for readers considering bandwidth-based proxy economics. That model can be sensible when response sizes and traffic volumes are predictable, but the exact API, rendering, and support scope must be checked on current vendor pages. Calculate expected bytes, retries, media loading, and regional traffic; do not make a categorical “cheaper” claim from a competitor article.

How to compare alternatives on your own targets

Build a representative test set

Use a small but difficult corpus rather than a list of easy marketing pages:

  • Static pages and JavaScript-rendered pages.
  • Several pagination patterns and infinite-scroll pages.
  • At least one region-sensitive page if geography matters.
  • Pages requiring cookies or a stable session.
  • Targets that show consent banners, bot checks, or CAPTCHAs.
  • Large documents and pages with lazy-loaded images or data.

Store the expected fields or DOM markers for each URL. A response that returns HTTP 200 but omits the product list, price, or article body is not a successful scrape.

Run the same matrix for every provider

  1. Use the same URL list, headers, user-agent policy, geography, and timeout budget.
  2. Warm each provider with a small number of requests, then record repeated runs so transient cache effects are visible.
  3. Capture status, latency, response size, extracted-field completeness, retries, CAPTCHA or block outcomes, and billed units.
  4. Separate first-byte latency from total time to a rendered page. Record concurrency limits and queue delays.
  5. Repeat tests at the traffic level you expect. A service that succeeds at ten requests may queue or throttle at your production rate.

Score outcomes instead of averaging incompatible benchmarks

For each URL, mark a pass only when the required fields are present and valid. Report pass rate by target type, median and tail latency, and the number of attempts required. Keep CAPTCHA, timeout, blank, and malformed responses in separate categories. This produces an operational view of your workload without pretending that a vendor benchmark on another sample predicts your result.

Calculate effective cost

Use your measured request mix and the provider’s current billing rules:

monthly_cost = request_charges
             + rendering_or_browser_charges
             + proxy_or_bandwidth_charges
             + storage_and_scheduling
             + retries_and_failed_attempts
             + engineering_and_operations

Divide that total by valid records delivered, not by attempted requests. Include pages that return successfully but fail your field-completeness test. Check whether cache hits, failed loads, and retries are billed, and whether one request can consume multiple credits because it uses rendering, premium proxies, extraction, or a targeted endpoint.

Scrape.do’s current pricing and FAQ page, accessed in 2026, says its free plan includes 1,000 successful API calls per month and access to its listed features. That is a vendor statement and can change; use it as a baseline for your test, not as a permanent allowance.

Reliability, compliance, and maintenance

Access reliability

Anti-bot defenses change independently of your code. Plan for retries with exponential backoff, bounded concurrency, idempotent jobs, and a dead-letter queue. Preserve the original URL, provider parameters, timestamp, and response classification so you can diagnose a domain that changed its behavior.

Browser and session state

Rendering is not the same as interaction. If a target requires clicking, login state, a consent action, or a sequence of requests, verify that the service supports those steps and that cookies persist for the required scope. A raw request endpoint may be the wrong abstraction for a multi-step workflow.

Legal and contractual review

Confirm that your collection purpose, target sites, geography, personal-data handling, and retention policy comply with applicable law and the target site’s terms. Ask vendors for current contractual language and certifications; a comparison page cannot substitute for procurement validation.

Selector and workflow maintenance

Structured extraction and ready-made Actors reduce initial coding but do not eliminate maintenance. Track schema changes, missing-field rates, and parser exceptions. Keep a small canary set running daily so a site redesign is detected before a full batch produces bad data.

Common migration problems and fixes

Symptom Likely cause Fix
HTTP success but empty content The page requires JavaScript, a later API call, or a cookie. Enable the provider’s documented rendering or session option; verify the required DOM marker, not only the status code.
Intermittent CAPTCHA or bot page Target defenses, request rate, geography, or session reputation changed. Lower concurrency, use the supported session or regional setting, add bounded retries, and check whether CAPTCHA handling is included in your plan.
Costs exceed the estimate Rendering, premium proxies, bandwidth, retries, or extraction consume extra units. Export usage by feature, calculate cost per valid record, and retest with production-like response sizes.
Apify run works but output is inconsistent The selected Actor has its own input schema, parser, or maintenance cadence. Pin the Actor version when possible, validate its output schema, inspect logs, and budget for custom maintenance.
Regional results are wrong IP location, timezone, cookies, language, and account settings disagree. Set all relevant regional signals consistently and add region-specific assertions to the test set.
Production throttles despite a successful pilot Concurrency, queue capacity, or provider limits were not tested. Load-test gradually, honor documented limits, and design a queue that can reduce parallelism without losing jobs.

A practical decision guide

  • Choose ScrapingBee, ZenRows, or ScraperAPI when your application needs a focused HTTP API and you will own URL discovery, parsing, and persistence.
  • Choose Apify when you need hosted Actors, storage, scheduling, and repeatable multi-step automation.
  • Evaluate Bright Data when managed access, sessions, geography, structured output, and enterprise review outweigh a simpler endpoint.
  • Investigate Oxylabs when bandwidth economics and its current product scope fit your traffic model.
  • Keep Scrape.do if it meets your target-domain tests and its successful-call allowance and feature set produce the lowest effective cost for your workload.
  • Use ScreenshotNeo when the deliverable is a clean screenshot or PDF rather than extracted data.

Or skip the browser setup

If your task is visual capture, ScreenshotNeo provides a single-request screenshot API and an MCP server for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. Before capture it accepts the consent banner like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be disabled. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are identified in response headers and are not billed as clean shots.

It supports PNG, JPEG, WebP, and PDF output, full-page captures with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, device presets or custom viewports, retina scale, custom CSS and JavaScript, clicks, waits, request blocking, headers, cookies, user agents, authorization, timezone and geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, chosen cache TTLs, signed image links, asynchronous webhooks, bulk capture for up to 100 URLs per call, and a usage API. Those controls are for rendering a visual artifact; they do not turn the response into a structured scraper.

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for parameter details. A one-call capture looks like this:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

Python:

import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)

Node.js:

const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);

ScreenshotNeo has a free allowance of 1,000 screenshots per month with no card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots; every feature is on every plan. Create a free ScreenshotNeo account.

FAQ

Can I use a direct API and Apify together?

Yes. A direct API can handle a narrow, latency-sensitive feed while Apify runs scheduled discovery, enrichment, or archival jobs. Keep separate budgets and validation rules so a platform run does not hide a failing request path.

Should benchmark percentages decide the migration?

No. The Bright Data article’s Proxyway 2025 report and Scrape.do benchmark used different providers, websites, and methods. Reproduce the test on your own domains and report the conditions with every result.

When is a screenshot service the right tool?

Use one when the required artifact is a visual record, PDF, or image for review, documentation, or an AI agent. Choose a scraping API when you need reusable fields or page content for computation.
