You can connect a Threads profile to Buffer, draft a single post or a multi-post Thread in Buffer’s web composer, and schedule it for a set time or a queue slot. The setup has a few sign-in traps, and Threads’ character, link, and topic rules decide what Buffer will accept. This guide covers the steps in order, then the limits and plan rules that most often cause surprises.
Buffer added Threads support in June 2024. In the launch announcement, founder and CEO Joel Gascoigne wrote, “I’m thrilled to share that you can now use Threads within your Buffer account.” He said the decision followed over 7,000 user requests. That is a company-reported count from 2024, not a current measure of demand.
What you need before you connect
- A Threads profile that is public.
- That Threads profile linked to an Instagram account.
- A Buffer plan that includes Threads scheduling. Buffer’s Help Center says Threads scheduling is available on its new plans. Legacy customers are directed to contact Buffer.

Buffer cannot show you a list of every Threads profile during connection. Instead, the Threads account active in your browser session is the one that connects. If several Threads profiles share one Meta login, follow Buffer’s sequence so the right profile is active.

- Log out of Threads and Instagram in the browser you plan to use.
- Log in to the Instagram account linked to the Threads profile you want to connect.
- Sign in to Threads through Instagram, so the intended profile is the active one.
- In Buffer, start connecting a Threads channel and complete the connection with that browser session.
- Check the channel name in Buffer before you draft anything. If it shows the wrong profile, disconnect it and repeat the sequence.
Schedule a single Threads post
- Open the Buffer web composer.
- Select the Threads channel.
- Write your post. Each message is limited to 500 UTF-8 bytes, so check the count before scheduling.
- Preview the post. For a text-only post, Buffer uses your first link as the link attachment and shows a preview of it.
- Choose a scheduling action from the table below and confirm.
Schedule a multi-post Thread
Multi-post Threads are created on the web composer only. Buffer currently says they are unavailable on mobile.
- Open the web composer and select the Threads channel.
- Write the first post, then select Start Thread.
- Add each following post with the additional post controls. A multi-post Thread can contain up to 25 posts.
- Preview the full sequence. Confirm each post stays within 500 UTF-8 bytes and within the link and topic rules below.
- Choose a scheduling action and confirm.
Every post in a multi-post Thread counts toward Threads’ reported limit of 250 posts per 24-hour period. On the Free plan, a queue can hold only one threaded post scheduled at a time, but you can save unscheduled threaded drafts.

Choose how a post gets published

Choose Next Available when you want Buffer to fill your normal schedule. Choose Set Date and Time when a post has to go out at a specific moment, such as a launch or a live event. Prioritize is useful when a post should jump ahead of others already queued.
Character, link, and topic rules
- Length: Each Threads message supports up to 500 characters, counted as UTF-8 bytes. Non-Latin scripts, accented characters, and emoji can use more bytes, so the composer may show fewer characters than you expect.
- Links: A post can contain up to five links. Repeated links count separately.
- Topics: Threads supports one hashtag or topic per post. Buffer’s guide says a topic can be up to 50 characters. The first hashtag in a post becomes a topic, and later hashtags appear as plain text.
Features that are unsupported in Buffer
According to Buffer’s Help Center, these features are currently unsupported for Threads in Buffer:

Check these items again before you plan a campaign around them, since Buffer’s support for them can change.

Buffer’s pricing page was last updated in November 2025, and plan prices and limits can change. Confirm the live page before you subscribe.

Choose the Free plan if you post to one or two profiles and rarely need more than one scheduled thread at a time. Choose a paid plan if you need unlimited scheduled posts per channel or shared collaboration on a team.
Analytics and what they can tell you
Buffer reports performance views for views, reactions, comments, shares, follows, engagement rate, and content trends. Follower and demographic data has two conditions. It is available only when the Threads profile is linked to an Instagram account with 100 or more followers, and Buffer says that data is recorded from the day you connect and is not backfilled.

What scheduling does and does not do
Buffer provides planning and publishing tools. The documentation reviewed does not establish that scheduling a post causes audience growth. Use Buffer’s analytics to compare your own posts over time, and treat the schedule as a way to publish consistently rather than as a guaranteed driver of followers.
