To include ordinary HTML audio and video resources when saving a page with Save Page WE, choose Standard Items, or choose Custom Items and select the HTML audio and video category. For embedded frames, check Retain cross-origin frames and Maximum depth of saved nested frames in Options. These controls affect what the saved page may retain; they do not guarantee that a streaming video will be saved as a playable offline file.
Choose which page items Save Page WE saves
Save Page WE saves a representation of a web page as a single HTML file. Its saved-item choices determine which page resources the extension includes. The Chrome Web Store listing describes Basic, Standard, and Custom choices, and identifies HTML audio and video files as part of Standard Items.
Standard Items
Choose Standard Items when you want the extension’s standard set of resources, including its listed HTML audio and video category. It is the simpler choice if you do not need to customize individual resource types.
Custom Items
Choose Custom Items when you want to decide which categories are included. Check the HTML audio and video files category. The Options markup also lists an Extract Image/Audio/Video action for use while viewing a saved page; that action is distinct from selecting resources to include in the initial save.

The available categories do not establish that every video player’s underlying media will be captured. A page may load a stream through mechanisms or access controls that are not equivalent to an ordinary HTML media file. Saving the page and extracting or downloading a video are different tasks.
Check the frame settings separately
Frame retention has its own controls in Options. Review both settings rather than treating them as one switch:

- Retain cross-origin frames controls whether Save Page WE attempts to retain frames hosted on a different origin from the main page.
- Maximum depth of saved nested frames controls how deeply nested frames are considered. The options markup shows a default value of 0, but does not explain precisely what that default guarantees. Check the value and the behavior in your installed version instead of assuming all nested frames will be saved.
Even with these options enabled or adjusted, site and browser context can affect what is available to save. The controls’ presence is not a promise that every embedded frame, its contents, or resources inside it will be preserved.
How to set the options and save a page
- Open Save Page WE’s Options from your browser’s extensions interface. The exact route and labels can differ by browser and installed version.
- For the saved-item selection, choose Standard Items, or choose Custom Items and check the HTML audio and video files category.
- In Options, review Retain cross-origin frames and set Maximum depth of saved nested frames as appropriate for the page.
- Return to the page and save it with Save Page WE.
- Open the resulting HTML file in a browser and check whether the relevant media and frames are present. Test the actual page you need; settings alone cannot establish that a particular site’s stream or frame will work offline.
What the old and new save methods change
The Chrome Web Store listing distinguishes an old and a new save method. It says the old method is the default, remembers the last save location, and cannot save some pages in Chrome 84 or later. It says the new method can save all pages but does not remember the last save location. This distinction concerns saving pages and the remembered location; it does not guarantee video capture or frame preservation.

The listing reports version 33.9, updated September 5, 2023. That is the version and update date stated by the listing, not confirmation of the latest version in 2026. A repository mirror identifies a Firefox Manifest V2 version 28.11 as older and says its code was last updated in 2023. Check the version installed in your browser and the Options labels it actually presents.
Why an embedded video may not play from the saved file
Including the HTML audio and video resource category is not the same as downloading every media stream. The Save Page WE listing describes its purpose as saving a web page as a single HTML file; it does not promise a complete offline copy of remote streaming media. An embedded player may depend on resources or access conditions that the saved page does not preserve. No site-specific compatibility or success rate is established by the extension’s feature description.

Troubleshooting
The saved page has no video
- Confirm that Standard Items was selected, or that the HTML audio and video category was checked under Custom Items.
- Check whether the page uses an embedded streaming player rather than an ordinary HTML media resource. The saved-page setting does not guarantee stream extraction.
- Open the saved HTML page in a browser and inspect the actual result; a setting cannot make remote resources available offline if the saved representation does not include them.
A frame or its contents are missing
- Review Retain cross-origin frames and Maximum depth of saved nested frames independently.
- Check whether the frame is nested and whether your chosen depth is suitable. The documented default of 0 does not by itself establish the outcome for every frame.
- Try the save on the target page and verify the saved result. The available feature description does not guarantee retention for every site or browser context.
The option names or save behavior do not match instructions
Check the installed extension version and its current Options interface. The Chrome listing’s version and update date are from September 2023, and the repository mirror describes a separate, older Firefox build. Do not assume those historical labels or behaviors describe every currently installed build.
