The Saucony Procyon Max is best suited to steady walking, jogging, and easy daily training—not speed workouts or racing. Saucony lists a 36 mm heel stack, 30 mm forefoot stack, and 6 mm offset, but RTINGS found its tested pair heavy and less cushioned than the “Max” name might imply. At the US price of $120 shown on Saucony’s pages on October 7, 2026, it is worth considering if stability and everyday versatility matter more to you than a light, race-ready feel.
What the Procyon Max is built for
Saucony describes the Procyon Max as a shoe for running and everyday movement. Its official product pages list a PWRRUN foam midsole, zoned XT-900 rubber outsole, and breathable mesh upper. Saucony presents the base as stable and the rubber as designed for traction and wear; those are manufacturer descriptions, not independent performance test results. See the men’s product page and women’s product page.

Saucony lists a 36 mm heel stack, 30 mm forefoot stack, and 6 mm offset for both versions. The “Max” in the name should not be treated as proof of maximal cushioning: RTINGS characterizes the shoe as closer to a standard daily trainer than to higher-stack alternatives.
How it performs in an independent review
RTINGS calls the Procyon Max a value-oriented trainer and favors it for walking, jogging, and easy daily runs. Its reviewer praised the stable platform and accommodating upper, but found the shoe heavy and less appealing for fast workouts or races. RTINGS also says the cushioning becomes less shock-absorbent after the first 10K and may not suit some longer efforts. These are the reviewer’s assessments, not a guarantee of how every runner will experience the shoe. Read the RTINGS review for its full evaluation.
#1 Best Overall
- COMFORT FOAM: A broad base and thick stack of PWRUN foam provide responsive cushion and protection.
- DURABILTY: Zoned XT-900 rubber maintains traction and durability with added articulation for flexibility
- COMFORT UPPER: Breathable mesh upper provides comfort for all day wear
- 6mm Offset
- Vegan and recycled materials
RTINGS’ reported measurements
RTINGS says it bought and tested a men’s US size 9 in White/Tranquil. In that pair, it measured 280.9 g (9.91 oz) in weight, 38.2 mm of heel stack, 27.5 mm of forefoot stack, and a 10.7 mm heel-to-toe drop. Those measurements differ from Saucony’s stated 36/30 mm stack and 6 mm offset. They should be kept distinct: the figures come from different sources and measurement methods, and shoe size can affect comparisons.
Fit and sizing guidance
Saucony advises sizing up from your usual lifestyle-shoe size for performance shoes. RTINGS, by contrast, found its tested pair remarkably true to size, with good forefoot width. The advice is not necessarily contradictory: lifestyle and running-shoe sizing may differ, and one reviewer’s tested size cannot settle fit for every foot.

If possible, try your normal running-shoe size alongside a nearby size. Check the seller’s current return and exchange policy before ordering, especially if you cannot try the shoe on first.

RTINGS describes the Saucony Paramount Max as a more premium, more deeply cushioned option, while positioning the Procyon Max as the cheaper choice for steady walking or treadmill jogging. It also compares the HOKA Rincon 5 as similarly priced, with more heel cushioning, while judging the Procyon Max more stable and somewhat peppier. These are RTINGS’ comparative judgments, not universal rankings; weigh fit, cushioning, stability, intended pace and distance, and current price against your own needs.

Who should consider it?
- Consider it if you want a stable-feeling shoe for walking, jogging, or easy daily training and its fit works for you.
- Look elsewhere or try carefully if low weight, fast workouts, racing, or substantial cushioning for longer efforts are priorities.
- Judge the name by the shoe, not the label: the “Max” branding does not establish that it offers maximal cushioning.
