For the SAP Business Suite 7 core applications covered by SAP’s published commitment, mainstream maintenance ends on December 31, 2027—not in September or January. Eligible customers may opt for extended maintenance through December 31, 2030, at a stated premium of two percentage points on the maintenance basis. This is a maintenance-policy date, not a universal shutdown date for every SAP product or customer.

When does SAP support end?

There is no single end date that applies to all SAP software. For the covered Business Suite 7 core applications, SAP’s published commitment keeps mainstream maintenance in place through the end of 2027. The policy’s relevant month is December; it does not identify September or January as the mainstream-maintenance end month.

SAP announced the 2027 commitment in 2020, and its current policy page states the same period. Check the SAP maintenance strategy for the general policy and the applicable product records for your system’s dates and eligibility.

Which products and releases are covered?

SAP names these Business Suite 7 core applications:

#1 Best Overall
  • SAP ERP 6.0
  • SAP Customer Relationship Management 7.0
  • SAP Supply Chain Management 7.0
  • SAP Supplier Relationship Management 7.0
  • SAP Business Suite powered by SAP HANA

The commitment covers the latest three enhancement packages of the named core applications. It does not automatically establish the maintenance date for every SAP product, release, or customer. SAP directs customers to its Release Strategy, Product Availability Matrix (PAM), and applicable SAP Notes to confirm product-specific dates and scope. Your contract and maintenance entitlement also matter.

What happens after mainstream maintenance?

SAP describes three relevant maintenance phases. They are not interchangeable: the end of one period does not mean the software stops running, nor does it guarantee the same level of maintenance afterward.

Phase Time period What it means
Mainstream maintenance Through the end of 2027 for the covered Business Suite 7 scope SAP’s published commitment for the named applications and specified enhancement-package scope.
Optional extended maintenance Beginning in 2028 and through the end of 2030 Available to eligible customers who choose it; SAP states a premium of two percentage points on the maintenance basis.
Customer-specific maintenance For customers who do not opt into extended maintenance, or after that extension ends A different maintenance phase whose scope and applicability should be checked against SAP Note 52505 and the customer’s terms.

Do not treat customer-specific maintenance as equivalent to mainstream maintenance. The general policy does not settle what support applies to a particular installation or agreement.

How should you plan your route?

The practical choice depends on your system’s eligibility, the work remaining in a transition, and how much maintenance coverage your organization requires. SAP’s policy supports these broad routes, but it does not determine which one fits a particular customer.

Route Time available Maintenance and cost Planning implication
Complete an SAP S/4HANA transition during mainstream maintenance Through the end of 2027 for covered systems Uses the mainstream-maintenance period; no extended-maintenance premium is needed for time after 2027 if the transition is complete. Confirm product and release eligibility, then plan the conversion against your own readiness and timeline.
Choose optional extended maintenance while a longer conversion proceeds Through the end of 2030 for eligible customers who opt in SAP states a two-percentage-point premium on the maintenance basis. Can provide more time, but confirm eligibility, terms, coverage, and cost with SAP and your contract.
Remain under customer-specific maintenance Applies if extended maintenance is not chosen, and after it ends Not equivalent to mainstream maintenance; specific terms and restrictions need checking. Assess the consequences for your products and agreement before relying on this route.

For a system-specific decision, verify the product, release, enhancement package, maintenance agreement, relevant SAP Notes, and PAM entry. The published commitment supplies a general date; it does not confirm an individual customer’s entitlement.

Is the September or January date about something else?

The cited SAP policy does not name either September or January as the end month for mainstream maintenance of the covered Business Suite 7 core applications. A date in a customer’s contract, product record, or transition plan may address a different product or issue; verify what the date refers to rather than applying the general commitment to it.

Another date that can cause confusion is the former end-of-2025 dual-use limit. In its February 11, 2020 announcement, SAP addressed a separate transition-policy issue: customers executing an SAP S/4HANA conversion received dual-use rights for Business Suite 7 and SAP S/4HANA until completion of their transition under the announced policy. SAP said this gave customers more time beyond the previous limit. Those use rights concern running the two environments during a transition; they are not the Business Suite 7 maintenance end date. Read SAP’s February 11, 2020 announcement for that policy context.

What about SAP Solution Manager 7.2?

SAP Solution Manager 7.2 follows a related Business Suite 7 approach, but its extension is limited to selected functions. SAP describes mainstream maintenance through 2027 and optional extended maintenance through 2030 for functions including requirements, project, process and test management; change control; IT service management; and landscape management.

According to SAP’s FAQ and product page, customers who choose Business Suite 7 extended maintenance receive the Solution Manager extension at no additional cost. SAP recommends transitioning to SAP Cloud ALM before the end of 2027. Solution Manager may continue under customer-specific maintenance after the stated periods, subject to SAP’s restrictions and the customer’s terms. Check SAP’s SAP Solution Manager information for the product-specific details.
