Samsung Wallet combines Samsung Pay and Samsung Pass with a place to keep supported payment cards, passes, selected IDs, and compatible digital keys. What you can use depends on your Galaxy device, location, and participating bank or other partner—so check each feature before leaving a physical card, ID, boarding pass, or key behind.
What is Samsung Wallet?
Samsung Wallet is Samsung’s app for storing and using supported cards, passes, credentials, and digital keys. It brings together Samsung Pay, the payment feature, and Samsung Pass, which provides biometric access to credentials for supported services. It is a feature hub, not a guarantee that every item or service will work on every device.
Samsung says Wallet is available on devices running Android 9 or later, but that minimum does not mean every feature is available on every qualifying phone. Country or region, device model, carrier, firmware, and third-party participation can all affect support. Check Samsung’s Samsung Wallet FAQ and the specific partner’s compatibility information for your setup.

What can you store and use?
Payment cards
Samsung Pay in Wallet supports contactless payments with eligible cards from participating banks. To pay, add a supported card, complete the issuer’s verification, and authenticate before using a compatible phone or watch at a contactless terminal. Your bank and market determine which cards are eligible; Samsung’s US Wallet page lists payment details and exclusions for some offerings. Check the current local list rather than assuming that a card or payment network is supported.

Samsung says payment cards can also be added to select Galaxy Watches. Its current product material limits watch support to select features and Galaxy Watch6 devices or later. The exact watch, bank, card, and feature must all be supported; a Wallet feature on a phone does not automatically work on a watch.
Samsung Pass credentials
Samsung Pass functionality is integrated into Wallet. Samsung describes it as biometric authentication for supported services, using a fingerprint or other supported authentication method. It can make supported sign-ins easier, but it is not a universal password manager that works with every app and website.
Loyalty, membership, and gift cards
You can add supported loyalty, membership, and gift cards. Whether a particular card can be added or redeemed depends on its issuer, format, and availability in your market. Confirm the retailer’s instructions and test the item before relying on it at checkout.

Tickets and boarding passes
After checking in, you can add a boarding pass through an airline app or website when it offers a Samsung Wallet option. Samsung’s FAQ also describes importing a screenshot or PDF, or scanning a QR code or barcode. Airline participation and live flight updates depend on the partner and the pass format.
Open the saved pass before travel and make sure its barcode is legible. A mobile boarding pass is not an identity document: Samsung says travelers may still need to carry and present identification separately. Follow your airline, airport, and government requirements.
Selected IDs
Digital ID availability is limited by issuer and jurisdiction. Samsung’s US product page says mobile driver’s licenses are limited to TSA identification purposes for Arizona and Iowa residents at select airports and checkpoints; they do not replace the physical license. Student and company IDs require participating institutions and partners.

In a May 26, 2026 announcement, Samsung said US passport holders could add a passport-backed Samsung ID with CLEAR for identity verification at more than 250 TSA checkpoints. Samsung notes that use is subject to TSA and participating-airport discretion, and a boarding pass may still be needed. Check current Samsung guidance alongside TSA and airport instructions; checkpoint acceptance is not universal.
Digital car and door keys
Wallet supports digital keys for selected vehicles and compatible SmartThings-connected door locks. NFC keys require tapping a compatible reader with the phone. UWB can enable proximity interactions when both the phone and vehicle support it. Enrollment steps and compatibility depend on the phone, vehicle or lock, manufacturer, and market. Check the current Samsung digital-key guidance and the manufacturer’s instructions, and keep a backup way to enter until you have tested the key.
How do you add a credit or debit card?
- Open Samsung Wallet on a supported Galaxy device and choose the option to add a payment card.
- Enter or scan the card details, then follow the on-screen prompts.
- Complete the verification requested by the issuing bank. The card is ready only after issuer authentication succeeds.
- Make a test purchase at a contactless terminal if practical, while keeping the physical card available.
If the card is missing from the supported list or enrollment is rejected, check Samsung’s current local participating-bank information and ask the issuer whether that specific card is eligible. Repeated attempts will not make an unsupported card compatible.

How do you add a boarding pass?
- Check in with the airline first.
- If the airline offers an “Add to Samsung Wallet” action in its app or website, use it and follow the prompts.
- If there is no direct add option, use Wallet’s supported import or scan flow for a screenshot, PDF, QR code, or barcode, as described in Samsung’s FAQ.
- Open the pass and confirm the barcode displays clearly. Keep any required travel identification separately.
Direct airline integration may provide partner-dependent updates; an imported image or file may not. Do not assume a saved pass will update when your flight changes.

Samsung lists Android 9 or later as the operating-system minimum, but the supported phone and feature set vary by country, carrier, firmware, and partner. Confirm the exact model and feature in Samsung’s regional support information before setup. A supported phone does not make an otherwise incompatible bank card, airline pass, ID, car, or lock compatible.

How secure is Samsung Wallet?
Samsung says Wallet is protected by Samsung Knox and describes encryption and on-device storage for payment cards. Samsung’s launch announcement also described fingerprint recognition, encryption, and an embedded Secure Element that keeps certain sensitive items in an isolated environment. These are Samsung’s descriptions of its safeguards, not a guarantee that every Wallet item is stored identically or that any system is impossible to compromise.
Use a strong screen lock, keep device software current, and know Samsung’s account and device-recovery options. If your phone is lost, use the available account or device controls promptly and contact your card issuer if you need to suspend a payment card.

Before relying on Wallet away from home
- Verify the exact Galaxy model, Android version, firmware, market, and carrier requirements for the feature you intend to use.
- Confirm payment-card support with both Samsung’s local list and the issuing bank; finish issuer verification before depending on contactless payment.
- For travel, confirm the pass barcode works and carry required identification separately.
- For IDs, check the issuing authority and the specific airport or checkpoint’s current rules.
- For a car or door key, verify the exact phone and third-party product combination and keep a backup entry method.
- For a replacement phone, transfer Wallet data with Smart Switch if appropriate, then reactivate registered cards.
