On a Samsung tablet, open Settings > Display and move the Brightness slider. If the screen still looks too dark or unusually warm, check Adaptive brightness, Extra dim, and Eye comfort shield.
Adjust brightness in Settings
- Open Settings.
- Tap Display.
- Move the Brightness slider until the screen is comfortable to view. Samsung’s Galaxy phone or tablet display settings guide documents this control; menu names and layouts can vary by model and software version.
Change brightness from Quick settings
For a faster adjustment, open the Quick settings panel and move its brightness slider, usually marked with a sun icon. Samsung describes swiping down from the top right to open the Quick panel on supported layouts, but tablet gestures and panel arrangements can differ. If you do not see the slider, use Settings > Display instead. Samsung’s Quick panel instructions are written for Galaxy phones, so treat the gesture as an example rather than a universal tablet instruction.
Choose manual or automatic brightness

| Adaptive brightness | Adjusts the screen brightness in response to ambient light. | Use it if you want the tablet to respond automatically as lighting changes. |
Find the automatic setting under Settings > Display > Adaptive brightness, if available, and switch it on or off to suit your preference. Samsung notes that supported features and menu labels vary by device and software version.
Fix a screen that looks too dim or too yellow
Turn off Extra dim if the display is unusually dark
Open Settings > Accessibility > Vision enhancements > Extra dim and turn it off if it is enabled. This feature can reduce brightness beyond what the main slider suggests. Its availability and exact menu path depend on the tablet. Samsung’s screen-color troubleshooting guidance covers Extra dim and notes that features can differ across models.

Check Eye comfort shield if colors look warmer
Open Settings > Display > Eye comfort shield and review whether it is enabled or scheduled. The feature can change how screen colors appear, making them look warmer. Samsung says Eye comfort shield is available on One UI 3.1 and later devices, but not necessarily on every model. See Samsung’s Eye comfort shield guidance.
If the slider seems ineffective
Check Adaptive brightness first: it may be changing the level in response to room lighting. Then check Extra dim and Eye comfort shield, since they can affect perceived brightness or color. The options may be named or arranged differently on your tablet.
