Samsung Sound is expected to shut down on March 31, 2027, according to reports about an in-app notice. The app controls compatible Samsung soundbars and Wi-Fi speakers. Samsung’s notice, as quoted by Android Central, directs users to register their device in SmartThings to continue using existing settings. Samsung’s public support page explains how to set up compatible audio devices in SmartThings, but it does not confirm the shutdown date.
When is Samsung Sound shutting down?
SamMobile reported on October 1, 2026, that an in-app notice gives March 31, 2027, as the shutdown date. Android Central reported the same date on October 2, citing SamMobile and reproducing the notice’s transition wording. This date comes from reporting on the in-app notice; it is not stated on Samsung’s reviewed U.S. support page.
The notice wording reproduced by Android Central says: “Simply register your sound device in the SmartThings app to continue using your existing settings.” No named Samsung representative has been quoted commenting on the shutdown.
Which Samsung app is affected?
Samsung Sound is used to control compatible Samsung soundbars and Wi-Fi speakers. Samsung’s U.S. support information covers Q-Series soundbars, Wi-Fi speakers and Music Frame. Samsung also described Samsung Sound as an app for managing sound and grouping speakers across its soundbars and Music Studio speakers in its 2026 audio lineup announcement.

This is not the same app as Sound Assistant. Sound Assistant is a separate Good Lock Labs app for Galaxy phone audio features, including application audio routing and multi-app sound. The shutdown reports concern Samsung Sound for external audio devices, not the Galaxy phone utility. Galaxy Store’s Sound Assistant listing identifies the separate app.
How to add a compatible sound device to SmartThings
Samsung’s support instructions provide a setup route for compatible audio devices. Have the soundbar or speaker powered on and near the phone or tablet, then:

- Open SmartThings and select a location.
- Choose Add device.
- On the Samsung devices card, choose Add.
- Select Soundbar or Speaker.
- Follow the on-screen discovery prompts.
Samsung presents SmartThings as the alternative when an audio device is compatible with Samsung Sound or when Samsung Sound is unavailable in the app store. See Samsung’s U.S. support page for getting the Samsung Sound app and using SmartThings for its setup guidance.
Will all settings and features carry over?
The reported in-app notice says to register the device in SmartThings to continue using existing settings. However, the reviewed reporting and Samsung support instructions do not specify whether every model-specific setting or feature transfers unchanged, or provide a complete model-by-model compatibility list.

After registering your device, check that it appears in SmartThings and that the controls you rely on are available there. If the device is not found, or a setting you use is missing, consult Samsung support for guidance specific to your model rather than assuming every function has moved.

No hardware purchase is identified as part of the software transition. Samsung’s April 6, 2026 U.S. product announcement described Samsung Sound as a control and grouping app for its then-announced Q-Series soundbars and Music Studio Wi-Fi speakers; that product context does not mean owners need to replace their devices to use SmartThings.
