If your Samsung RF263BEAESG ice maker is covered by a sheet of ice, Samsung’s guidance is not to defrost it yourself: stop and request service. Do not use a hair dryer, force out a stuck ice bucket, or try a service-mode sequence. A test-button reset is a separate troubleshooting step for some ice-production problems; it does not thaw a frozen ice maker.
What to do if the ice maker is frozen over
Samsung warns owners not to attempt to defrost an ice maker because doing so may damage it. If the ice maker is frozen over with a sheet of ice, Samsung directs owners to request service through its ice maker troubleshooting guidance.
- Do not apply heat, including a hair dryer.
- Do not force a stuck ice bucket out of its housing.
- Stop troubleshooting and contact Samsung Support or a qualified appliance technician.
The RF263BEAESG is a French-door refrigerator with an Ice Master ice maker in the refrigerator compartment, according to Samsung’s product sheet. Samsung says the ice maker has an automatic defrost function; a sheet of ice indicates that service is appropriate rather than a manual thawing attempt.

A visible sheet of ice or a bucket that will not come out normally calls for service. If there is no sheet of ice and the symptom is simply that no ice is being made, first check basic user-accessible conditions. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance includes confirming that the ice maker is turned on and that the ice bucket is correctly seated.

How to use the test button for a no-ice problem
Samsung describes the Test button as a way to run a functional test or reset on some ice makers, not as a way to melt ice or repair an automatic-defrost fault. The button’s position can vary by ice-maker layout, so use the manual for your exact refrigerator rather than relying on instructions for another model.
- Confirm there is no sheet of ice and that the bucket can be removed normally. If either condition is not met, stop and request service.
- Check that the ice maker is switched on and the bucket is seated correctly.
- Follow the test-button instructions in the model’s manual. Samsung’s general guidance describes removing the bucket and holding the Test button until a chime sounds for some ice makers.
- Do not keep repeating the test after the tray has filled. Samsung warns repeated tests can cause water to overflow or ice to jam.
Samsung’s model support page lists the RF263BEAESG manual and quick guide; both are shown as modified June 28, 2016. Consult those documents for model-specific user instructions. If the test fails or the problem persists, contact support or a qualified technician.

Why not use the service-manual defrost mode?
A third-party-hosted service manual for the RF263BEAE family describes service functions, including an “Fd” mode. That is service documentation, not an owner defrost procedure. Samsung’s consumer guidance says not to manually defrost a frozen-over ice maker, so do not enter service mode or try display-button combinations to thaw it.
