Samsung’s One UI 6.1 rollout began in 2024, so it is no longer an update Galaxy owners should be waiting for in 2026. If your device was included, it should have received the update or moved on to a later version. Availability depended on model, country, carrier, and firmware variant. Check your installed software first, then look for the latest update offered for your exact device.
When did Samsung roll out One UI 6.1?
Samsung announced the first major expansion of One UI 6.1 on February 22, 2024. It said the rollout would begin from late March for selected Galaxy devices. A second expansion, announced May 2, began in stages from early May. Those were rollout start windows—not guaranteed arrival dates for every owner. Samsung’s Hong Kong newsroom, for example, specified March 29, 2024, for the first wave in that market; that date was not a universal U.S. carrier release date.
| Device group | Announced timing | What the timing means |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S23 series, S23 FE, Z Fold5, Z Flip5, and Tab S9 series | From late March 2024 | Staged rollout; timing varied by market and carrier. |
| Galaxy S22 series, Z Fold4, Z Flip4, and Tab S8 series | From early May 2024 | Staged rollout; availability varied. |
| Galaxy S24 series | Shipped with One UI 6.1 | It did not need the same upgrade as older models. |
| Selected earlier models receiving later AI expansions | During 2024 | Some updates were associated with One UI 6.1.1 or later firmware. |
Samsung’s first announcement covered the late-March group, while its May announcement named the second group. Regional schedules could differ: Samsung’s Hong Kong notice gave a specific local start date.
Which Galaxy devices did Samsung name?
First announced group
- Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra
- Galaxy S23 FE
- Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5
- Galaxy Tab S9, Tab S9+, and Tab S9 Ultra
Second announced group
- Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra
- Galaxy Z Fold4 and Z Flip4
- Galaxy Tab S8, Tab S8+, and Tab S8 Ultra
The Galaxy S24 series launched with One UI 6.1. These lists describe Samsung’s announced Galaxy AI-focused expansion, not every Galaxy model that may have received a One UI 6.1-based build. The announcements do not establish a blanket Galaxy AI entitlement for older S-series, Note, or A-series devices. Check the exact model and regional firmware rather than assuming eligibility from the family name alone.

Also separate the software update from its features: a device can run One UI 6.1 without receiving every Galaxy AI feature offered on the Galaxy S24. Samsung notes that availability depends on device and feature compatibility; details are in its Galaxy AI support guidance.
What is One UI 6.1, and what features came with it?
One UI is Samsung’s interface and software layer for Galaxy devices. One UI 6.0 was Samsung’s earlier Android 14-based release; One UI 6.1 was a feature update associated with the Galaxy S24 generation and the expansion of Galaxy AI to selected older devices. It was not a completely new Android generation.

Depending on the device, supported features included Circle to Search, Live Translate, Interpreter, Chat Assist, Note Assist, Browsing Assist, Generative Edit, and AI-related wallpaper features. Availability can depend on the model, language, region, settings, and app version. Some features require Samsung or Google apps, a Samsung account, or an internet connection, and some AI processing uses cloud services. An update notification alone does not guarantee access to every feature.
One UI 6.1 versus One UI 6.1.1
Samsung announced a One UI 6.1.1 expansion in September 2024, bringing newer Galaxy AI features from the Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 to selected earlier models. The named group included the Galaxy S24 and S23 series, S23 FE, Z Fold5, Z Flip5, and Tab S9 series. The rollout began in September 2024, with availability varying by device and market. See Samsung’s One UI 6.1.1 announcement.

The version label is not always the whole story: some phones may show One UI 6.1 while receiving features through a later maintenance release, whereas foldables and tablets may show 6.1.1. Check the installed build and available features as well as the marketing version. One UI 7 and One UI 8 are later generations, so a device already running one of them should not be expected to show a separate One UI 6.1 update.
How to check for the update or your current One UI version
- Open Settings.
- Tap Software update.
- Tap Download and install, then follow the prompt if an update is offered.
- After installation, open the device’s software information screen to check its One UI version, Android version, security patch level, build number, and model number.
Depending on your device or wireless provider, the menu may instead say System updates, Check for system updates, or Check for software updates. Samsung’s update instructions describe the general process and note that labels can vary. Its software information guidance explains where to find version and build details.

Why might the update not appear?
- Your phone is already on a later version. Check the installed One UI version before troubleshooting a missing 6.1 notification.
- Your exact model was not in the announced group. A shared product-family name does not prove that every model or variant was included.
- Your firmware follows a different market or carrier schedule. Carrier-branded and unlocked devices can receive updates at different times; an imported phone may follow its original region’s channel.
- The rollout was staged, paused, or awaiting certification. Timing can differ by carrier, country, model number, and software variant.
- The update cannot install yet. Low storage, a low battery, a failed prior update, beta software, or modified software can interfere with delivery or installation.
- The feature you want is not supported on your model. One UI 6.1 installation does not ensure the full Galaxy AI feature set.
Samsung says update screens and labels can vary by model, operating system, and wireless provider. Its One UI 6.1 troubleshooting guidance covers update checks and alternate menu labels.

- Restart the device and check again using the software-update menu.
- Connect to stable Wi-Fi, charge the battery, and free storage if a download or installation fails.
- Confirm the model number and installed One UI, Android, and build versions in Settings. Compare the exact model—not just the retail name—with Samsung’s compatibility information.
- If the phone is carrier-branded, ask the carrier whether an update is available for that model and firmware channel. If it was imported, check which market’s firmware it uses.
- Use Samsung Members or Samsung Support for device-specific help if the model appears eligible but no suitable update is offered.
Do not install firmware intended for another model or region. If your phone already runs a later supported One UI version, use that version rather than trying to install an older 6.1 package. Samsung’s U.S. support material has moved on to later One UI generations, including One UI 8; see its current software support information. As of August 18, 2026, One UI 6.1 is a completed 2024 rollout, not a pending release.
