The Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 (G80SD) is a flat 32-inch 4K OLED gaming monitor with a 240Hz maximum refresh rate. Its main strengths are sharp 4K detail, deep blacks, vivid color, very fast response, effective glare reduction, HDMI 2.1 console support, and built-in smart-TV apps. Its main weaknesses are OLED burn-in risk, limited performance in strong light, dimmer large HDR highlights, possible text fringing, and the absence of Dolby Vision and USB-C connectivity.

Model identity and the specs that matter

Samsung markets this panel as the Odyssey OLED G8 G80SD. The unit reviewed by RTINGS is labeled S32DG80, and Samsung’s Canadian listing uses the full code LS32DG802SNXZA. Model codes differ by region and retailer, so check the label on the box or the rear of the monitor against the listing before you buy.

The table below separates Samsung’s published specifications from the reviewer observations discussed in the next sections. Every figure in the first column is a manufacturer value, not an independent measurement.

What the monitor does well

RTINGS recommends the G80SD for console gaming, PC gaming, video, office work, and photo or video editing. The strengths it highlights are:

  • Response and motion: near-instantaneous pixel response, which suits fast competitive play at high frame rates.
  • Black levels and color: OLED blacks are deep, and colors look vivid in the reviewer’s testing.
  • Detail: 4K gives noticeably more sharpness than a 1440p panel of the same size.
  • Glare handling: the matte coating reduces reflections more than a glossy panel would, and it can reduce letter fringing compared with some QD-OLED alternatives, though it does not eliminate fringing.
  • Console compatibility: RTINGS confirms compatibility with PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and the two HDMI 2.1 inputs cover current console output.

The integrated Tizen platform is the feature that sets this model apart from many high-refresh OLED monitors. With the remote, you can open streaming apps without a separate device, which makes the screen usable for streaming as well as desktop work. Samsung Newsroom reported in July 2024 that the G8 had received a 2024 Editors’ Choice award from Home Theater Review and praise from other publications. Those excerpts were selected by Samsung, so treat them as attributed context rather than a consensus of independent reviewers.

A line Samsung Newsroom attributed to CGMagazine in its July 18, 2024 article reads: “The Samsung Odyssey OLED G80SD struts the most when it is pedaling its breakneck 240hz refresh rate over its stunning 4K display.” Trusted Reviews’ “Highly Recommended” and a Forbes discussion of the heat pipe and glare-reducing screen also appear in that article.

Downsides and limitations

Brightness works in most rooms, not in bright ones

Samsung lists 250 cd/m² typical brightness. The matte surface reduces reflections, but RTINGS says the monitor handles a few lights well and cannot overcome strong glare. If the desk sits in direct sunlight or faces a window with powerful light, this limitation will matter more than any other item on this list.

Large HDR highlights look dimmer

RTINGS found that small HDR highlights stand out well against the deep blacks OLED produces, while large bright areas appear dimmer. The monitor’s HDR is therefore strongest in scenes with small, high-contrast highlights, such as stars, reflections, or on-screen indicators, and weaker in scenes that fill much of the frame with bright content.

Text is sharp, with some fringing

At 4K, text looks crisp. RTINGS nonetheless notes some letter fringing. Its overall review says the matte coating reduces fringing but does not remove it. Anyone who spends long hours coding or reading small type should look at the screen in person or in a store, ideally with the text settings they normally use.

OLED burn-in remains a real risk

Samsung describes several OLED Safeguard+ measures: a cooling system, dimming of static logos and taskbars in AV mode, and a screensaver that dims the image after 10 minutes of inactivity. Samsung’s Canadian page says burn-in under normal use is covered by the warranty, while commercial use, abuse, and misuse are excluded. Warranty terms are regional, so check the terms that apply where you live. The safeguards lower the risk, but they do not make burn-in impossible, and no long-term burn-in failure rate for this model has been published by an independent source. RTINGS also lists burn-in as a risk.

Some competitors offer features this model lacks

RTINGS reports that the G80SD does not support Dolby Vision. It also does not offer the USB-C video, power delivery, or KVM switching found on some rivals. The USB 3.0 hub on the G80SD is a different feature, and it is listed by Samsung, so this model should not be described as having no USB ports. RTINGS names the Dell Alienware AW3225QF as an example with Dolby Vision and the MSI MPG 321URX as an example with USB-C power delivery and KVM functions. If you need any of these, compare the specific models directly.

Who should buy it and who should look elsewhere

Your priority Fit with the G80SD
Fast PC or console gaming on a large 4K screen Strong fit
Built-in streaming apps and a remote Strong fit; Gaming Hub availability depends on your country
Deep blacks, vivid color, and glare reduction in a moderately lit room Strong fit
Bright sunlit room or strong direct light Weak fit; brightness is limited
Spotless text for long coding or document sessions Evaluate in person; fringing is possible
Dolby Vision support Not supported (RTINGS)
USB-C video, power delivery, or KVM switching Not offered; look at alternatives
Limited tolerance for static-image management Weak fit; burn-in is a risk even with safeguards

A 4K panel asks more of the computer than a 1440p panel. RTINGS notes that a 1440p monitor is easier to drive at high frame rates on modest hardware. If your graphics card cannot reach frame rates you want at 4K, the monitor’s 240Hz capability will go unused in many games.

Checks before you buy

  1. Confirm the exact model code on the box or label (S32DG80 for the unit RTINGS reviewed, or your regional code such as LS32DG802SNXZA on the Canadian listing).
  2. Check the current price and stock with your retailer, because neither was established for this article.
  3. Confirm Gaming Hub availability in your country on Samsung’s regional product page.
  4. Read the warranty terms that apply in your region, especially the burn-in and misuse wording.
  5. Match the inputs to your devices: two HDMI 2.1 ports and one DisplayPort 1.4 port.
  6. Test your typical room lighting and text settings if you can, since brightness and fringing are the two points most likely to affect daily use.

Spec and feature details in this article come from Samsung’s Canadian product page, accessed October 2026, and from RTINGS’ review of the S32DG80, which showed updates through July 2026 when accessed in October 2026. Price and regional availability were not verified.

The G80SD suits buyers who want a large, fast 4K OLED that also works as a streaming screen, provided their room is not very bright and they are comfortable managing OLED static-image exposure.
