To silence notifications on a Samsung Galaxy phone, open Settings > Notifications > Do not disturb and turn on Do not disturb. For a broader mute, choose Mute under Settings > Sounds and vibration. To quiet just one app, go to Settings > Notifications > App notifications and select it. Menu names and layouts vary by model and software version.
Choose the right way to quiet your Galaxy
Samsung offers different controls for different needs. Do not disturb can silence calls and notifications while allowing selected exceptions, and it can be scheduled. Mute disables sound and vibration for calls and notifications. App notification settings let you manage one app without changing the behavior of everything else.

Samsung describes Do not disturb as silencing calls and notifications except for allowed exceptions. Check those exceptions rather than assuming that every call, alarm, or alert will be blocked. Samsung Support: Adjust call settings on your Galaxy phone.

Turn on Do not disturb
- Open Settings.
- Tap Notifications.
- Tap Do not disturb and switch it on.

Schedule quiet hours
- Open Settings > Notifications > Do not disturb.
- Tap Add schedule and give the schedule a name.
- Choose the days and time period, then save.
- Confirm the schedule’s switch is enabled.

Allow selected people, apps, or sounds through
In Do not disturb settings, review the available exception controls before relying on the mode. Samsung’s US instructions include choices for calls from all callers, contacts, favorite contacts, or no one, as well as a repeat-caller option. You can also check allowed messages, app exceptions, alarms, and sounds. Options depend on device and software version.

These exceptions determine what can still reach you while Do not disturb is active. If you need a quiet period but must remain reachable by certain people, configure the caller and repeat-caller settings deliberately rather than treating Do not disturb as an all-or-nothing switch. - Open Settings > Notifications > App notifications.
- Select the app.
- Adjust whether it can send notifications and review the options shown for that app.
On some Galaxy devices, app notification categories provide more specific controls. If an expected alert is missing, check both the app’s notification permission and its categories. Use Mute or lower notification volume
Mute calls and notifications
For a broad silent mode, open Settings > Sounds and vibration and select Mute. Samsung distinguishes Sound, Vibrate, and Mute modes; Mute disables sound and vibration for calls and notifications. Samsung Support: Adjust call settings on your Galaxy phone.
Adjust notification loudness separately
If notifications appear but are too loud—or make no sound—open Settings > Sounds and vibration > Volume and adjust Notifications. Notification volume is separate from other sound controls, so check that slider before changing unrelated system settings. Silence alerts without hiding them—or control what appears
Silent audio and hidden on-screen notifications are separate outcomes. Do not disturb includes controls for notification visibility while the screen is on or off. On One UI 8, Samsung also documents Brief or Detailed pop-up styles and options to show or hide lock-screen content globally or per app. These presentation settings affect what you see; they do not disable an app’s permission to send notifications. Troubleshoot notifications that are still silent or missing
Check the symptom rather than changing several settings at once:

- Do not disturb is active: Check its switch and enabled schedules. Review exceptions if a particular call or alert is getting through.
- One app is not notifying: Check its notification permission and categories under Settings > Notifications > App notifications. Also check whether the app is marked as deeply sleeping.
- Notifications appear without sound: Check Settings > Sounds and vibration > Volume and raise Notifications volume.
- Nothing makes a sound: Check whether Settings > Accessibility > Hearing enhancements > Mute all sounds is enabled. Samsung says this feature mutes media, notifications, system sounds, and the other person’s voice during calls.
- Alerts arrive but are not visible where expected: Review Do not disturb’s visibility settings and the app’s lock-screen or pop-up presentation options.
