The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 is a strong fit if you want a large phone that folds into a compact shape, with a bigger cover screen for quick tasks and flexible ways to take photos. Its main drawbacks are less flexible cover-screen software than the hardware might suggest, battery life that depends heavily on how you use it, and no dedicated telephoto camera.

What are the Galaxy Z Flip7’s main advantages?

A larger, brighter cover screen

Samsung specifies a 4.1-inch Super AMOLED cover display with a 60Hz or 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness up to 2,600 nits. The diagonal is measured across the full rectangle; rounded corners and the camera opening reduce the viewable area. The larger panel makes notifications and supported quick interactions easier to see without opening the phone, though what you can do on it also depends on software. Samsung’s launch announcement and its Galaxy Z Flip7 specifications list the display details.

A full-size inner display in a foldable

Open the phone and you get a 6.9-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display with an adaptive 1–120Hz refresh rate, according to Samsung’s specifications. Android Central found the phone’s width close to Samsung’s Plus-sized slab phones and the crease less noticeable in use than its appearance might suggest. That makes the Flip7 usable as a conventional large-screen phone when unfolded, rather than a small-screen device with a novelty hinge. Android Central’s review describes its hands-on experience.

Compact folded dimensions and useful camera angles

Samsung lists the Flip7 at 188g and 13.7mm thick when folded. Its cover and back use Gorilla Glass Victus 2, while the frame is Armor Aluminum. The folding design also lets you use the 50MP main and 12MP ultra-wide rear cameras for selfies, or partly fold the phone to prop it up for hands-free photos and video. These flexible shooting positions are a practical benefit of the form factor, separate from image quality. Samsung’s announcement lists the dimensions and materials; Android Central discusses the camera use.

Samsung DeX comes to the Flip line

Samsung says the Z Flip7 is the first Galaxy Z Flip model to support DeX. The feature lets you connect the phone to a screen and use PC-like tools for multitasking. That is Samsung’s description of the feature; it should not be read as an independent assessment of how well the phone replaces a computer for any particular workflow. Samsung announced DeX support on July 9, 2025.

What are the Galaxy Z Flip7’s disadvantages?

The cover screen is not as unrestricted as its size suggests

A larger display does not automatically make every app work smoothly on the outside screen. Android Central reports that app use remains constrained, while TechRadar found it possible, though sometimes difficult, to run apps such as maps and games there. Those reports reflect different reviewer experiences and setups; neither supports treating the cover display as an unrestricted replacement for the inner screen. Android Central and TechRadar discuss the software experience.

Battery capacity does not guarantee long endurance

The 4,300mAh battery is the largest in the Flip series, and Samsung claims up to 31 hours of video playback. That is a manufacturer figure, not a promise of typical daily runtime. In use, Android Central reported roughly a full day and about six hours of screen-on time; its controlled video comparison found little improvement over the Flip6. TechRadar also got a full day in typical use but needed a recharge on heavy camera-use days, and its lab rundown ended just under 12.5 hours. These figures come from different methods and are not directly comparable. Samsung’s specifications, Android Central’s review, and TechRadar’s review provide the respective claims and results.

Demanding workloads can bring heat and power tradeoffs

Android Central found everyday performance competitive, but reported more heat than on the Flip6 during demanding use and suspected higher power draw. TechRadar’s comparison found the Razr Ultra faster and longer-lasting in that publication’s tests. These are reviewer-specific observations, not a guarantee of how every unit will behave; they are most relevant if you regularly run demanding games or other sustained workloads. Android Central and TechRadar report their respective findings.

No dedicated telephoto lens

The rear camera setup comprises a 50MP main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide camera, alongside a 10MP front camera. Samsung does not list a dedicated telephoto camera. The folding design adds useful selfie and hands-free shooting options, but it does not provide the same dedicated optical zoom hardware that some conventional flagship phones offer. If you often photograph distant subjects, compare zoom capabilities before choosing. Samsung’s specifications list the cameras, and Android Central discusses the system.

Storage cannot be expanded with a microSD card

Samsung lists 256GB and 512GB models and no SD card slot. If you record a lot of 4K video or keep large media libraries on your phone, select the capacity you need at purchase. Samsung’s specifications provide the storage options.

Who should buy the Galaxy Z Flip7?

The Flip7 makes the most sense for someone who values a phone that folds down compactly, wants a relatively large outer display for quick interactions, and will use the hinge for flexible photos or video. DeX may also matter if connecting a phone to a larger screen fits your workflow.

Consider a conventional flagship instead if zoom range or the best possible endurance is more important than folding. When comparing another flip phone, weigh the cover-screen app experience, battery results from comparable tests, performance and heat under sustained use, camera versatility, folded size, durability and service terms, and the current price where you live.

What should you know about price and accessories?

TechRadar listed a launch price of $1,099 in the US, £1,049 in the UK, and AU$1,799 in Australia for the 256GB model in 2025. Those are historical launch prices, not current quotes; check local listings for present pricing and availability. TechRadar’s review reports the launch prices.

Samsung’s US specification PDF says the 25W Super Fast charger and wireless charger are sold separately and advises using Samsung-approved chargers and cables. If you need a charger, confirm compatibility and what is included with the phone in your region. A protective case is optional; check that it fits the Z Flip7, leaves the hinge clear, and does not obstruct the cover screen. Do not assume a case or screen protector is included. Samsung’s US specification sheet covers the charger note.
