Samsung says both the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra and Galaxy Tab S12+ include an S Pen and run Android 17 with One UI 9. The Ultra is the larger, heavier option; Samsung promotes it with DeX and a keyboard with trackpad for laptop-like work, while warning that some specialized software may still require a laptop. The specifications, prices and availability below are Samsung announcements and can vary by market.
What is the difference between the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra and S12+?
The main distinction in Samsung’s announced specifications is size: the Ultra has a 14.6-inch display, compared with 12.6 inches on the S12+. Both are listed with 120 Hz Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays and a MediaTek Dimensity 9500 processor. The figures below are from Samsung’s U.S. announcement; network configurations and other specifications can differ by region and device SKU.

Samsung’s announcement does not establish one universal networking specification: its global announcement lists 5G, Wi-Fi 7 and Wi-Fi 6E across the series, while the U.S. announcement assigns Wi-Fi 7 to the Ultra and Wi-Fi 6E to the S12+. Check the exact regional model before buying. The cited U.S. starting prices are announced launch prices, not a guarantee of current retail pricing.

Does either tablet include an S Pen?
Yes. Samsung says both tablets include an S Pen. Samsung’s global announcement specifies that the included pen does not support BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy), so buyers should not assume Bluetooth-based remote actions are available.

Which keyboards work with the S12 series?
Samsung lists the Pro Keyboard and Book Cover Keyboard Slim for the series. In its U.S. laptop-productivity description, the Ultra is paired with a Pro Keyboard that has a trackpad. Samsung describes the Pro Keyboard as a more structured setup and the Slim as a lighter, more flexible keyboard-cover option.

Can the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra replace a laptop?
Samsung’s U.S. FAQ frames this as a laptop-replacement question. The company points to the Ultra’s 14.6-inch display, Pro Keyboard with trackpad, DeX and apps including Photoshop, Notability and Clip Studio Paint as supporting laptop-like productivity. Samsung also says a laptop may still be necessary for certain specialized software. This is Samsung’s product positioning, not an independent evaluation of specific work tasks or applications.

Samsung India makes a similar claim for the S12+ paired with the Book Cover Keyboard Slim and DeX, describing it as a lightweight laptop alternative. That statement applies to the India-market product page; it should not be taken as a universal assessment of laptop replacement.

What software and update support does Samsung announce?
Samsung lists Android 17 and One UI 9 for the tablets. It also promises up to seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. “Up to” is Samsung’s stated limit; the announcement does not establish a specific end-of-support date or guarantee that every feature or update arrives at the same time in every region.

Samsung’s U.S. page says the Galaxy Tab S12 series will be available starting October 7, 2026. That date is the announced U.S. availability date and may differ elsewhere. The U.S. announcement gives starting prices of $1,399.99 for the S12 Ultra and $1,199.99 for the S12+; configurations and prices may vary by market.
