If you’re choosing between Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra and Apple’s large-screen flagship, the right comparison is the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Choose the S26 Ultra for Android, an included S Pen, built-in Privacy Display, a lighter body and dedicated 3x and 5x telephoto cameras. Choose the iPhone 18 Pro Max if you prefer iOS and Apple-device continuity, want a variable-aperture main camera or MagSafe, or need a 2TB storage option. Their US launch prices start almost identically, so ecosystem and features—not the starting price alone—are better guides.
At a glance: which phone fits your priorities?
| If your priority is… | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Android, customization or a built-in stylus | Galaxy S26 Ultra | It runs Android and includes an S Pen. |
| Privacy when using your phone in public | Galaxy S26 Ultra | Samsung includes a built-in Privacy Display. |
| Lower weight in a large phone | Galaxy S26 Ultra | It weighs 214g, compared with 249g for the iPhone 18 Pro Max, while both have 6.9-inch screens. |
| Two dedicated optical telephoto levels | Galaxy S26 Ultra | Its rear cameras include 3x and 5x telephoto lenses. |
| iOS and continuity with Apple devices and services | iPhone 18 Pro Max | It is the natural fit if your daily setup already depends on Apple’s software and devices. |
| Variable-aperture main camera or MagSafe | iPhone 18 Pro Max | Apple lists a variable-aperture main camera; the comparison also identifies MagSafe as an iPhone advantage. |
| Maximum listed storage | iPhone 18 Pro Max | Apple offers a 2TB configuration; the S26 Ultra tops out at 1TB in the listed configurations. |
These are two large premium phones, each with a 6.9-inch, 1–120Hz display and capable camera hardware. Neither is the universal winner: your preferred software, how you use the cameras, storage needs and local pricing matter more than a spec-sheet tally.
How big are they, and which is easier to carry?
Both phones have a 6.9-inch display, but the Galaxy S26 Ultra is notably lighter. Samsung lists the S26 Ultra at 214g and 78.1 × 163.6 × 7.9mm; the comparison lists the iPhone 18 Pro Max at 249g. That is a 35g difference in the Samsung’s favor, which can matter when holding a large phone for a long time or carrying it all day.
The screen sizes alone do not tell you which will feel more manageable. If weight is a priority, the published figures favor Samsung; for comfort in your own hand, consider the overall dimensions and grip as well.

How do the displays compare?
Samsung specifies a 6.9-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with an adaptive 1–120Hz refresh rate and a 2,600-nit peak brightness. The comparison reports a 6.9-inch OLED display for the iPhone 18 Pro Max, also with a 1–120Hz range, and a 3,000-nit peak brightness. These are reported specifications, not measurements from a direct test.
The iPhone has the higher cited peak-brightness figure; Samsung’s display has higher cited pixel density and the phone adds Privacy Display. Peak brightness does not, by itself, establish which screen looks better in everyday conditions. If privacy in public is a deciding factor, Samsung’s built-in feature is a meaningful point of difference.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max has a 48MP main camera with variable aperture, a 48MP ultrawide and a 48MP 4x telephoto, according to the comparison. Apple’s listed specifications also identify variable aperture on the main camera.
Choose Samsung for two dedicated telephoto levels
The S26 Ultra offers separate 3x and 5x optical telephoto cameras. That gives you two dedicated zoom perspectives rather than a single telephoto level, which may be useful if you often photograph subjects at different distances.

Camera specifications do not settle image quality. Megapixel counts and optical zoom levels alone do not establish which phone takes better photos or video. Compare sample images and footage from the kinds of scenes you actually shoot before deciding.

Which software and ecosystem should you choose?
The Galaxy S26 Ultra runs Android and includes Samsung’s S Pen, making it the more natural choice if you want Android flexibility, stylus input or Samsung’s built-in features. Samsung says the S26 series has a seven-year security-update commitment; that statement concerns security updates.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max runs iOS. It is likely the more convenient fit if you already rely on Apple devices and services, such as an Apple Watch, tablet, computer, messaging, cloud services or purchased apps. Switching platforms can affect more than the phone itself: consider which devices, accounts and services you use every day.

What do the storage options and US launch prices look like?
The following are reported US launch or list prices, not live sale prices. Retail prices and availability can change, and configurations may differ by region.
| Storage | Galaxy S26 Ultra | iPhone 18 Pro Max |
|---|---|---|
| 256GB | $1,299.99 | $1,299 |
| 512GB | $1,499.99 | $1,499 |
| 1TB | $1,799.99 | $1,899 |
| 2TB | Not listed in the cited configurations (Samsung Newsroom US) | $2,499 |
At the 256GB tier, the reported US launch prices are nearly identical. Samsung is $100 less at 1TB in those figures, while Apple offers a 2TB option. Check current local pricing for the storage tier you want rather than assuming one brand is always cheaper.
What should you know about battery life and charging?
Samsung advertises charging the S26 Ultra to up to 75% in 30 minutes under its stated conditions. The comparison lists a 5,000mAh battery for the S26 Ultra and reports iPhone 18 Pro Max capacities of 5,567mAh in eSIM-only models or 5,391mAh in other variants. Capacity and a stated charging rate do not establish everyday battery life on their own.
TechRadar estimates around 30 hours of casual use for either phone, and estimates about 16 hours of continuous use for Samsung versus 17 hours for iPhone. These are TechRadar’s estimates, not results from a test conducted for this article, and they are not guaranteed runtimes. Your workload, network, settings and regional phone variant can change actual endurance.
