The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is the premium choice for buyers who want a higher-resolution display, top-tier processor and dedicated telephoto cameras. Samsung’s announced US starting prices were $1,299.99 for the S26 Ultra and $549.99 for the A57—a $750 gap, not a current-price check or a worldwide comparison.

How much more does the S26 Ultra cost?
At US launch, Samsung listed the Galaxy S26 Ultra from $1,299.99 and the unlocked Galaxy A57 5G from $549.99, a $750 difference between the announced starting prices. Samsung announced S26 Ultra storage options of 256GB, 512GB and 1TB; the A57 price cited here is for the unlocked US version. The starting-price comparison does not establish prices for matching storage configurations, current retailer offers or current stock.
The S26 series became generally available in the US on March 11, 2026. Samsung named Amazon Stores, Best Buy, Samsung Experience Stores, Samsung.com and carriers among its US preorder outlets; that does not confirm a particular listing’s price or availability now. Samsung announced US A57 availability from April 9, 2026, at Samsung Experience Stores and Samsung.com. Its announcement does not establish Amazon availability for the A57. Prices also differ by market. As one separate example, Samsung Japan listed the SIM-free A57 at ¥79,800 including tax in its online shop on April 16, 2026, with a Japan release date of April 23; the announcement noted that other retailers could charge differently. This yen price should not be compared directly with the US dollar launch prices. Samsung Japan’s announcement gives those regional details.
Display: sharper resolution or a lighter phone?
The S26 Ultra has the larger, higher-resolution panel: Samsung lists a 6.9-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with adaptive refresh from 1Hz to 120Hz. The A57’s 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED+ screen reaches up to 120Hz. Samsung’s diagonal measurements account for rounded corners differently from the full-rectangle figures: the viewable diagonal is 6.7 inches on the S26 Ultra and 6.6 inches on the A57.

Both are large displays with a 120Hz maximum refresh rate, but the specifications favor the S26 Ultra for resolution and adaptive refresh range. The A57 retains a large screen while giving up some size and resolution. These listed features do not by themselves establish which display looks better in everyday use.
Cameras: dedicated zoom hardware versus a simpler array
The S26 Ultra’s rear camera hardware includes a 200MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide and separate 10MP 3x and 50MP 5x telephoto cameras, according to Samsung’s global specifications. That gives it dedicated optical-zoom camera hardware at two listed magnifications.

The A57 has a 50MP main camera, 12MP ultrawide and 5MP macro camera, plus a 12MP front camera. Its cited specification list does not include a dedicated telephoto camera. The megapixel counts and lens list describe hardware, not the quality of photos, low-light results or video; no independent comparative image-quality test is established here.
Performance, size and battery
Processor
Samsung specifies the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy in the S26 Ultra. For the A57, Samsung’s US launch release describes upgrades to the CPU, GPU and NPU but does not name the chipset in the cited lines. The available specifications therefore identify the S26 Ultra’s processor but do not support a benchmark-based performance comparison between these two phones.

Weight and dimensions
The A57 is listed at 179g and 6.9mm thick; the S26 Ultra is 214g and 7.9mm thick. The A57 is 35g lighter and 1mm thinner based on Samsung’s listed figures. This is a measurable handling difference, though comfort still depends on the user and how each phone is held.

Samsung lists a 5,000mAh battery for the S26 Ultra and a 5,000mAh typical capacity for the A57. Capacity figures alone do not establish which lasts longer: no independent comparative endurance results are provided here. Samsung’s cited specifications do not establish charging speeds or in-box charger contents for this comparison.
Best Value
- 6.8" Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate, up to ~1750 nits brightness, HDR10+ support, and ultra-smooth responsiveness for gaming and scrolling.
How long will Samsung support each phone?
Samsung says the S26 series will receive seven years of security updates. For the A57, Samsung promises up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades and up to six years of security updates. These are different support commitments: an upgrade-generation count and an update-duration commitment should not be treated as identical end dates.
Which Galaxy should you choose?
- Choose the S26 Ultra if: you prioritize QHD+ resolution, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, or dedicated 3x and 5x telephoto camera hardware, and are prepared for its higher US launch starting price and heavier, thicker body.
- Consider the A57 if: a much lower announced US starting price, lighter build and large 120Hz display matter more than the S26 Ultra’s listed resolution, processor and dedicated telephoto cameras.
This recommendation follows Samsung’s published specifications and launch pricing; it is not a claim about tested real-world speed, photo quality or battery life.
