The Xiaomi 17 is smaller and lighter, with a higher stated battery capacity and faster stated charging. The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra has a much larger display, separate 3x and 5x telephoto cameras, and an integrated S Pen. There is no single reliable price gap in the available launch references: Samsung’s U.S. starting price and Xiaomi’s euro-denominated global launch price are from different markets and dates.

Which phone is better for your priorities?
Choose Xiaomi 17 for compact handling
At 191g and 6.3 inches, Xiaomi 17 is the more compact choice on the published figures. Its 71.8mm width may also make one-handed handling easier than the S25 Ultra’s 77.6mm body, though comfort depends on hand size and case choice.
Choose Galaxy S25 Ultra for a larger screen and stylus
The S25 Ultra’s 6.9-inch display gives more screen area for reading, multitasking and media. Its integrated S Pen is the clearest workflow difference: it can suit handwriting, sketching and marking up documents without carrying a separate stylus.
#1 Best Overall
- Stunning 6.9″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with adaptive 1–120 Hz refresh rate, ultra‑bright up to ~2600 nits, HDR support, “Vision Booster,” and adaptive color tone — giving vivid colours, great outdoor visibility, and super‑smooth scrolling.
- Powerful internals: it runs on the new Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy (3 nm) chip, with 12 GB (or in some markets up to 16 GB) RAM and up to 1 TB UFS 4.0 storage — offering significantly improved CPU/GPU/NPU performance, especially for AI tasks, gaming, and heavy multitasking.
- Advanced quad‑camera system: 200 MP wide main sensor, plus a 50 MP ultrawide, a 50 MP periscope telephoto (5× optical zoom), and a 10 MP telephoto (3× optical zoom) — giving flexibility from ultra‑wide through detailed telephoto shots, and strong performance in varied lighting.
- 5,000 mAh battery with 45 W fast wired charging, wireless charging (Qi2) and reverse wireless charging — balancing long battery life with flexible charging options.
- Durable, premium build: Titanium‑frame body, protected by Corning Gorilla Armor 2 glass, with IP68 dust/water resistance, ultrasonic in‑display fingerprint sensor, modern connectivity (5G, Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth, UWB, USB‑C), and long‑term software support (Android 15 / One UI 7, promised 7 major OS/security updates).
Choose by camera hardware, not megapixel totals
Samsung lists distinct 3x and 5x telephoto camera modules alongside its 200MP main camera. Xiaomi lists three 50MP rear cameras and describes its 60mm telephoto zoom as “optical-level.” Those descriptions are not interchangeable, and megapixel counts alone do not establish which phone produces better photographs. A direct camera-quality verdict requires controlled independent comparisons.
Consider charging specifications, but do not infer battery life
Xiaomi publishes a larger typical battery capacity and higher wired and wireless charging rates. Samsung’s U.S. launch material gives a charging estimate of up to 65% in around 30 minutes when using a 45W adapter and USB-C cable. Different protocols and test conditions mean these specifications do not prove which phone lasts longer in everyday use.

What is the price difference?
The sourced launch references are $1,299.99 for the 256GB Galaxy S25 Ultra in the U.S., announced in January 2025, and EUR 999 as Xiaomi 17’s global launch starting price, disclosed in connection with Xiaomi’s February 2026 global event. They are not current retail prices and cannot be subtracted to produce a meaningful price difference: the currencies, markets, dates and potentially configurations differ. For a useful comparison, check current listings in your country for the same storage capacity, then account for warranty coverage, supported network bands and any included charger. Samsung lists 256GB, 512GB and 1TB S25 Ultra configurations, while availability can vary by market. Xiaomi says product models and sale dates vary by region; its global page advises confirming whether a power adapter is included with the local seller, and wireless chargers are sold separately.

Specifications and claims that need context
Brightness and camera numbers are not comparative test results
Xiaomi claims up to 3,500 nits multi-scenario peak brightness for the Xiaomi 17. That manufacturer figure is not a cross-lab comparison with Samsung’s display. Likewise, the 12MP versus 50MP front-camera counts do not establish selfie quality. The manufacturers’ specifications are useful for identifying hardware, but not for declaring a photographic or display winner.
Battery figures are manufacturer-specific
Xiaomi’s product page also publishes 29.2 hours of video playback and at least 80% battery health after 1,600 charging cycles, attributed to Xiaomi Internal Labs in 2026. Results can vary, and these figures are not comparable with a Samsung test conducted under the same conditions.

IP68 does not mean unconditional or permanent water protection
Samsung and Xiaomi describe different laboratory submersion conditions and both caution against treating the rating as a guarantee for normal use. Their differing depth claims should not be used to conclude that one phone is more waterproof; water resistance can diminish, and damage conditions are not represented by a rating alone.

- Confirm the precise storage and RAM configuration rather than relying on a listing title or a specification from another region.
- Check network-band compatibility, local warranty terms and availability of software features for the SKU being sold in your country.
- Verify whether a power adapter is included with the Xiaomi 17 in the local package; Xiaomi says inclusion should be confirmed with the seller.
- Check the router, carrier and device variant for local support of connectivity features such as Wi-Fi 7.
