The Samsung Galaxy M36 5G and POCO M8 5G both offer 120Hz OLED-class displays, but their hardware favors different buyers: POCO lists a larger battery, lighter body and faster wired charging, while Samsung includes an ultrawide rear camera, optical image stabilization (OIS) and a stated security-update end date. There is no verified, like-for-like India price comparison in the available listing figures, so check the exact RAM, storage, seller and current offer before deciding.

The M36 figures are from Samsung India’s Galaxy M36 specifications. The M8 specifications are from the POCO Singapore product page; its cited memory configurations and regional status should not be treated as confirmation of India SKUs. The M8 launch date is given in Xiaomi’s POCO M8 FAQ. Manufacturer specifications are not independent test results, and manufacturers may change specifications or availability.
Which display is better?
Both phones list OLED-class panels with refresh rates up to 120Hz. The POCO screen is listed as 6.77 inches with a 2392 × 1080 resolution; Samsung lists a 16.91cm full-rectangle display, approximately 6.66 inches, at 1080 × 2340. The screen sizes and resolution figures come from different manufacturer conventions, so treat them as specifications rather than a direct measure of viewing quality.

How do their cameras differ?
Rear cameras
Samsung lists three rear cameras: a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultrawide and a 2MP camera. It also lists OIS on the rear camera and 4K recording at 30fps. POCO lists a 50MP main camera and a 2MP depth camera, with 4K rear video at 30fps.
The M36 therefore has the more versatile listed rear-camera arrangement: an ultrawide camera is useful for fitting more of a scene into a frame, and OIS is a hardware stabilization feature. This is a hardware comparison, not a finding that its photos or video are better. The available specifications do not establish comparative image quality.

Front cameras
POCO lists a 20MP front camera and Samsung lists a 13MP one. The higher stated resolution does not, by itself, establish better selfies, video calls or low-light results.

Battery, charging and portability
POCO lists a typical 5,520mAh battery, 520mAh more than the M36’s listed 5,000mAh typical capacity. It also lists 45W wired charging and up to 18W wired reverse charging. The cited Samsung specifications page does not state a charging wattage, so the figures do not support a direct charging-speed comparison.

A larger capacity does not prove longer battery life. Screen settings, network conditions, software and use affect runtime, and these figures are not comparable battery tests. Likewise, POCO’s charging specifications do not establish how quickly a phone charges in every region or which adapter comes in a local package; Xiaomi notes that regional package contents and adapters can differ.
POCO lists the M8 at 178g and 164 × 75.42 × 7.35mm. Samsung lists the M36 at 197g and 164.4 × 77.9 × 7.7mm. On those manufacturer figures, the M8 is 19g lighter and slightly thinner. Actual dimensions and weight may vary.

Storage, processor and software support
Match the storage configuration first
Samsung’s cited India product page lists an 8GB/128GB version and microSD expansion up to 2TB. The cited POCO Singapore page lists 8GB/256GB and 8GB/512GB versions, with expandable storage up to 1TB. These are not matching storage configurations. Check the exact India model and memory variant before comparing value; regional listings cannot confirm local availability.

POCO names the M8’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, manufactured on a 4nm process and listed with a maximum CPU speed of 2.4GHz. Samsung’s cited page gives an octa-core processor and CPU speeds of 2.4GHz and 2GHz but does not identify the chipset in the available specifications. That information is not enough to declare a performance winner.

Compare support commitments carefully
Samsung states that M36 security updates are valid until 31 December 2031. The cited POCO page does not establish a comparable support end date. That absence is not proof that POCO provides no updates; verify the M8’s support policy for the specific market before treating software longevity as a deciding factor.
What is the price difference in India?
A Smartprix comparison listing accessed on 7 October 2026 displayed ₹21,999 for the Galaxy M36 and ₹22,820 for the POCO M8, a difference of ₹821 with the POCO listing higher. These are third-party listing figures, not official prices or a verified matched-variant quote: the page’s model, storage and seller context must be checked, and prices can change. Other Smartprix pages showed different prices for 8GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB versions.
Before deciding, compare the same RAM and storage capacity, confirm the seller and included items, and check the current India price. The POCO specifications cited here come from its Singapore page, so that source alone does not verify an India SKU, warranty, network-band compatibility or bundled charger.
