The Moto G96 5G is the more compelling fit on paper if you want a curved 144 Hz display, an IP68 rating, a larger listed battery and a lighter phone. The Samsung Galaxy M36 5G makes more sense if you want microSD expansion or Samsung’s longer stated software-support window. There is no reliable like-for-like price gap in the available India listings: compare the same storage tier and seller before deciding.

Which display is better for you?

Choose the Moto G96 for a curved, faster-refresh panel

The Moto G96’s curved pOLED panel is specified for up to 144 Hz, compared with the M36’s flat Super AMOLED screen at up to 120 Hz. A higher refresh ceiling may make supported motion appear smoother, but it does not establish a difference in overall display quality or everyday performance. The choice between curved edges and a flat panel is also a matter of handling preference.

Motorola lists peak brightness up to 1,600 nits and Gorilla Glass 5 for the G96. That is a manufacturer-listed specification, not a comparative lab measurement against the M36.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Choose the Galaxy M36 if you prefer a flat Super AMOLED display

Samsung lists a 6.7-inch-class FHD+ Super AMOLED display with a maximum 120 Hz refresh rate. The Moto’s resolution is 1080 × 2400, while the M36 is listed at 1080 × 2340; these figures alone do not establish which screen looks better in use.

Storage, memory and performance

Galaxy M36: more flexibility for local files

The M36 is offered with 6 GB or 8 GB RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB built-in storage. Its hybrid SIM slot supports microSD cards up to 2 TB, according to Samsung’s product information. The hybrid arrangement means buyers should check the tray configuration if they need two SIMs as well as a memory card.

Moto G96: 8 GB RAM, but no card expansion

Motorola lists 8 GB RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB storage for the G96, with no expandable storage on its support page. If you keep a large offline photo, video or music library, that limitation may matter more than the chip-name comparison.

Samsung lists an octa-core CPU at 2.4/2.0 GHz; a third-party comparison identifies it as Exynos 1380. Motorola specifies the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2. These specifications do not prove which phone is faster in apps or games, and no comparable benchmark or hands-on performance test is established here.

Camera hardware: what the specifications do and do not say

Both phones list optical image stabilization (OIS) on the main rear camera. The M36 adds a 2 MP macro camera, while the G96’s 8 MP ultrawide camera is listed with autofocus. The M36’s primary video specification includes 4K recording at 30 frames per second.

The G96 has the higher stated front-camera resolution at 32 MP, compared with 13 MP on the M36. Megapixel counts and camera quantity do not establish photo quality, low-light performance or video results. No comparative camera test is available to declare a winner.

Battery capacity and charging

Samsung lists a 5,000 mAh typical battery capacity and reports a 4,905 mAh rated minimum. Samsung says its approximately 25 W fast charger is sold separately. Motorola lists a 5,500 mAh battery and 33 W TurboPower charging. The larger stated capacity and higher charging wattage on the Moto do not, by themselves, prove longer battery life or a faster real-world recharge; no matched endurance or charging test is established. Check the exact retail package for included charging accessories.

Size, weight and water protection

At 178 g, the Moto G96 is listed as 19 g lighter than the 197 g M36. It is also narrower and shorter on the listed dimensions, though slightly thicker. Those figures make the Moto the more compact, lighter option on paper; handling comfort depends on grip and preference.

Motorola lists an IP68 rating for the G96. The available Samsung specifications do not establish an M36 ingress-protection rating, so do not assume equivalent water or dust protection. Samsung’s comparison data mentions glass construction and Gorilla Glass Victus+, but buyers should verify protection details against documentation for their exact variant.

Software support: a longer stated horizon from Samsung

Samsung advertises six generations of OS upgrades for the M36 and lists security updates through December 31, 2031. Samsung qualifies this as its current plan rather than a commitment, and says timing and content may change. Motorola lists Android 15, one OS upgrade and three years of security maintenance releases for the G96. Neither listing specifies exact rollout dates for every update.

On the published support policies, Samsung offers the longer stated support window. That is useful if you intend to keep a phone for several years, but it does not guarantee identical update timing across users or regions.

Which phone should you choose?

The Moto G96 is the stronger on-paper match if you prioritize

  • A curved pOLED display with a listed refresh rate up to 144 Hz.
  • An IP68 rating and a lighter listed body.
  • A 5,500 mAh stated battery capacity, 33 W listed charging, or a 32 MP front camera.

The Galaxy M36 is the stronger on-paper match if you prioritize

  • Adding up to 2 TB of microSD storage through its hybrid SIM slot.
  • A flat Super AMOLED display and a rear camera setup that includes a dedicated macro camera.
  • Samsung’s longer stated software-support policy, with its published caveat about changing plans and timing.

For either phone, treat these as specification-based trade-offs. The available evidence does not establish a winner for real-world speed, camera quality, battery endurance or overall value.
