Samsung’s Light performance profile slightly reduces processing power to prioritize battery life and cooling efficiency for everyday use. It may help your Galaxy use power more conservatively, but Samsung does not publish a fixed battery-life gain—and community anecdotes do not establish that the improvement will be enormous for other users.
What changes when you switch from Standard to Light?
Samsung describes Standard as the default profile, balancing processing speed, battery life, and cooling efficiency. Light shifts those priorities toward battery life and cooling efficiency over processing speed. Samsung says it is intended to keep everyday tasks such as browsing, messaging, and watching videos smooth while slightly reducing processing power. It does not promise a specific number of extra hours or percentage of battery saved. Samsung’s Canada support page describes the feature for devices sold in Canada, and Samsung’s US Device Care guidance explains the Standard and Light priorities.
| Profile | Processing speed | Battery and cooling priority |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | Balances processing speed with other priorities | Balances battery life and cooling efficiency |
| Light | Reduces processing power slightly | Prioritizes battery life and cooling efficiency over processing speed |
Samsung’s support pages do not provide controlled, model-specific benchmark results comparing the profiles. The table describes Samsung’s stated priorities, not a measured performance or battery-life outcome.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsHow to find the Light performance profile
- Open Settings and go to Device care.
- Open the performance profile control and select Light. The exact menu label and path can differ by model, carrier, and software version.
If you do not see the control, search Settings for Performance profile. Samsung notes that screens and settings may vary by device model, service provider, and software version. Its Canada instructions apply to devices sold in Canada, so the available option and path may not match every Galaxy.

Light profile is not the same as Power saving mode
Light performance profile and Power saving mode are separate controls. Samsung documents the performance profiles separately from its battery-saving features, and notes that some settings may need to be changed after temporarily turning Power saving off. The reviewed guidance does not explain every interaction between the two controls on every Galaxy model and software version. Samsung’s battery guidance covers Power saving and related battery features.
Is the battery gain enormous?
There is no controlled figure in the cited Samsung guidance for how many hours or what percentage Light adds. Community posts can describe individual experiences, but they are not a dependable estimate for another phone. A July 21, 2026 Reddit post about S25 battery optimization describes a personal guide that combines the author’s knowledge with AI assistance, rather than a controlled comparison: the S25 discussion. A Samsung Members thread also includes a user-reported screen-on-time comparison without establishing controlled conditions: the Light Performance Profile discussion.

So a large improvement may be an individual observation, but the available evidence does not show that switching profiles reliably produces an enormous gain. Results can depend on how the phone is used and its settings; an anecdotal result should not be treated as a forecast.

If you want to see whether Light helps on your phone, compare periods with the same model and software version, and keep these factors as consistent as practical:

- Screen brightness and display refresh setting
- Network conditions
- Apps and usage pattern
- Screen-on time
Record the profile used and the conditions for each period. A comparison with substantially different brightness, connectivity, or use cannot isolate the effect of the profile. This is a way to make a personal comparison more informative, not evidence that a controlled test has already established a particular gain.
