To share your Samsung Galaxy phone’s mobile data, open Settings > Connections > Mobile Hotspot and Tethering, then turn on Mobile Hotspot. On the device you want to connect, choose the Galaxy’s hotspot name in Wi-Fi settings and enter its password. Menu labels and available options can vary by model, carrier and software version.
Before you turn on the hotspot
A Galaxy mobile hotspot shares the phone’s mobile data connection with other devices; the setup described here does not rebroadcast a nearby Wi-Fi network. Confirm that mobile data works on the phone and check with your carrier that your account allows tethering. Plan rules and possible extra charges or overage fees depend on the carrier and account.
Hotspot use consumes mobile data and battery. If you are relying on it for a long session, check your data allowance and use any data-limit or automatic-timeout controls your phone provides.

Turn on Mobile Hotspot
- Open Settings on your Galaxy.
- Tap Connections, then Mobile Hotspot and Tethering.
- Tap or switch on Mobile Hotspot. If prompted, review the network name and password shown on the phone.

Configure the hotspot network
In the Mobile Hotspot screen, tap Configure if that option is available. You may be able to review or change the network name, password, security setting and Wi-Fi band. Set a password rather than leaving the network open. The available security modes and bands depend on the Galaxy model, carrier software and the devices joining it; Samsung documents WPA2 or WPA3 and 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz options on supported configurations.
Connect a laptop, tablet or other phone
- On the device that needs internet access, open its Wi-Fi settings.
- Select the network name shown in the Galaxy’s Mobile Hotspot settings.
- Enter the hotspot password displayed or configured on the Galaxy.
If the Galaxy offers a QR code for the hotspot, the other device may be able to scan it to join without manually entering the network details. QR joining depends on the phone’s configuration and the receiving device’s capabilities.

If the other device cannot find the hotspot
- Try 2.4 GHz. If the Galaxy lets you choose a band, switch to 2.4 GHz and check the Wi-Fi list again. Samsung identifies it as a compatibility option when a client cannot find the hotspot; 5 GHz may not be supported by every client.
- Turn off hidden-network mode. If Hidden network is enabled in the hotspot settings, disable it so the network appears in the Wi-Fi list.
- Check mobile data and tethering eligibility. Confirm the phone can use mobile data and ask the carrier whether tethering is enabled for your account. Samsung’s mobile hotspot troubleshooting guidance also points to the data connection and carrier service as possible causes.
- Recheck the network name and password. Use the details currently shown in Mobile Hotspot settings, especially if you changed them.
Manage data use, battery and automatic shutdown
Some Galaxy versions provide a hotspot data counter or a data limit that can switch the hotspot off once the selected limit is reached. Samsung also documents power-saving and automatic-timeout controls on supported configurations. Look in the Mobile Hotspot settings for these controls; their presence and labels vary by phone and software. Samsung’s Mobile Hotspot instructions describe data-limit controls and note that menu names and layouts can differ.
When the steps do not match your Galaxy
Samsung’s support pages describe the same basic hotspot task across regions, but feature availability and menu wording are not identical for every model or carrier build. If you do not see a setting described here, check the Mobile Hotspot screen on your phone and consult Samsung support for your model and region. Carrier-specific tethering limits and charges must be confirmed with your carrier.
