My Initial Thoughts
The growing threat posed by the dominance of Chinese companies in the smartphone industry has prompted Samsung into expanding its presence. The release of this Samsung Galaxy Express Prime 3 can be recognized as Samsung’s intent of strengthening its entry-level smartphone presence.
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Samsung Galaxy J3/J3 (2018)/J3 V 3rd gen/J3 3rd gen/Amp Prime 3/J3 Star
- Thin, sleek, stylish, pocket-friendly design, with wraparound colors and graphics add seamless style
- Dual-material construction absorbs shock and withstands drops, plus raised beveled edge keeps your touchscreen safe
- Easy installation protects and stylizes your phone in a flash
- Includes OtterBox limited lifetime warranty (see website for details)
On a close look at this entry-level smartphone, you will find it very identical to the Samsung Galaxy Luna model. This isn’t much of a surprise considering that they both belong to the entry-level Galaxy model lineup.
However, the Samsung Galaxy Express Prime 3’s spec sheet looks more promising than what the Samsung Galaxy Luna has to offer.
Samsung Galaxy Express Prime 3 Design, Dimension & Weight Review
In terms of design, the Samsung Galaxy Express Prime 3 is not spectacular in any way. And at the same time, its design is not ugly.
The Samsung Galaxy Express Prime 3 has a plastic body construction that gives it a familiar entry-level smartphone feel. This smartphone’s entire body has a white matte finish that makes it look stylish.
However, the Samsung Galaxy Express Prime 3 doesn’t follow the bezel-free trend seen in most modern smartphones. The thickness of its top and bottom bezel takes a little away from its stylishness.
Furthermore, the Samsung Galaxy Express Prime 3 has a boxy kind of shape that makes its appearance slightly different from that of most smartphones.
The Samsung Galaxy Express Prime 3 has a dimension of 142.7 x 70.1 x 8.8 mm and at 151.9 g, it cannot be classified as heavy.
Taking a closer look at this smartphone, above its 5-inch display, you will find an earpiece, an ambient light sensor, and a front camera. Meanwhile, beneath the display, there’s a home button, a recent app key, and a back key.
Moving further, around the device, you will notice a slight indentation that is common to many new Samsung devices. The right side houses the power button while the left side features a volume rocker.
Furthermore, there’s a headphone jack and a mic port at the top of this smartphone. Moreover, there’s another mic and a charging port at the bottom of the device.
Turning the Samsung Galaxy Express Prime 3 over to its back reveals its rear camera, a flashlight, the speaker grill, and the AT&T logo. You will also find the Express 3 branding at the bottom of the back cover.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

Its display has a Gorilla glass coating that allows the smartphone to resist major scratches on the screen.
Despite how light the Samsung Galaxy Express Prime 3 feels because of its plastic build, it still feels sturdy enough for a budget smartphone. Hence, the Samsung Galaxy Express Prime 3 scores a seven in this review for its good design and sturdy build.
Samsung Galaxy Express Prime 3 Display Features Review
Samsung equipped Galaxy Express Prime 3 with a 5.0-inch TFT display. This display has an HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.
Although this display will not completely wow you, it offers clear and sharp colors. However, the display’s sharpness is nowhere near the sharpness of more expensive models.
One of the good things about this display is its average sunlight visibility. Samsung has designed this smartphone’s display such that it can comfortably be used in sunlight.
Additionally, the display is coated with Gorilla glass for protection. Hence, the display is more resistant to scratches and oil stains.
In conclusion, the Samsung Galaxy Express Prime 3’s display is decent even though it’s not top tier. Therefore, it scores a seven in this review.
Samsung Galaxy Express Prime 3 Camera Features Review
The Samsung Galaxy Express Prime 3 features an 8 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera. This smartphone’s rear camera has a focus of f/1.9 while the front camera has a focus of f/2.2.

Due to the lack of optical image stabilization, users with unsteady hands will find it hard to take decent pictures. Also, images captured on this device in low-light environments are very poor.
However, the front camera of the Samsung Galaxy Express Prime 3 is slightly better even though it’s not exceptional either. With good lighting conditions, the image production on both cameras is not bad.
In conclusion, the Samsung Galaxy Express Prime 3 scores a six in this review for its poor camera quality.

The Samsung Galaxy Express Prime 3 comes with a 2,600 mAh battery.
Comparatively, the Samsung Galaxy Express Prime 3 is a bit underpowered in terms of its battery. Competing smartphones are usually equipped with 3000 mAh or higher capacity batteries.
Nonetheless, the battery life of the Samsung Galaxy Express Prime 3 is acceptable. Thi entry-level Samsung smartphone can last through an entire day of regular smartphone usage after a full charge.
However, if you are a heavy user, the Samsung Galaxy Express Prime 3 won’t last you through an entire day. Generally, the battery life – like other devices – depends on the user’s activities.

This smartphone’s internal storage is one of its underwhelming features. Although this storage space might be sufficient for low file storage, it will quickly get filled up after a little period of usage.

Samsung Galaxy Express Prime 3 Security Features & Sensors Review
The Samsung Galaxy Express Prime 3 comes with a good selection of sensors you would expect to see in a modern smartphone. These sensors enhance the user experience of the smartphone.
Samsung equipped this smartphone with an accelerometer that measures tilt and motion. It makes it easy for the phone to change orientation as you flip it from vertical to horizontal – and vice versa.
