The figures below are Samsung India’s 2025 launch prices, not verified current retail or checkout prices. The ₹5,000 difference compares only the 6 GB/128 GB versions.

What the spec sheet means for your choice
Display and everyday performance
Both phones list the same display class, maximum refresh rate and Exynos 1330 processor. Those matching specifications do not prove that the screens look identical or that performance is exactly the same in use; no comparative display or performance test is established here.

Cameras
Both models list a 50 MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), alongside 5 MP ultra-wide and 2 MP macro rear cameras, plus a 13 MP front camera. OIS is a listed feature of the main camera; matching resolutions and hardware descriptions alone do not establish which phone takes better photos or video.

Samsung lists a 5,000 mAh typical battery and 25 W charging for each. Actual battery life varies with usage and conditions. Samsung says the M17’s 25 W charger is sold separately, so confirm what is included with the exact retail package before buying.

Both are listed with IP54 protection. That rating indicates dust protection and resistance to splashing water; it is not a promise of suitability for a beach, pool or prolonged water exposure. Treat the stated protection as limited rather than permanent.
Storage and software support
The clearest listed configuration difference is built-in storage: Samsung’s A17 launch lineup included an 8 GB/256 GB model, while the M17 launch release listed configurations up to 8 GB/128 GB. Both support microSD expansion up to 2 TB according to Samsung; check the precise model and card compatibility before purchasing a card.

Samsung publishes a plan of six generations of OS or Android upgrades and six years of security updates for each phone. This is the manufacturer’s stated support policy; future timing and plans are not a guarantee that every update will arrive on a particular date.

- Choose the M17 if its current matched-configuration price is lower. Its 6 GB/128 GB India launch price was ₹5,000 below the A17’s, but that historical comparison does not establish today’s price gap.
- Consider the A17 if you want 256 GB built-in storage. Samsung listed an 8 GB/256 GB A17 5G configuration at launch; the M17 launch range listed up to 128 GB.
- Do not choose based on assumed camera, speed or battery superiority. Samsung’s listed headline specifications are closely matched, and they do not establish a tested winner on those measures.
Before ordering, verify that the listing is for the Indian 5G model, confirm RAM and storage, check current stock and package contents, and compare the final checkout price. These conclusions apply to the India-market Galaxy A17 5G and Galaxy M17 5G, not 4G models or regional variants.
