Samsung’s Galaxy A series is a broad family of phones, not one fixed set of specifications or a precise technical category. Models range from entry-level options to more capable devices such as the Galaxy A56 5G. Which phone makes sense depends on its exact model number, your country and carrier, and the features you need.
What the Galaxy A series includes
Galaxy A phones occupy several price and feature tiers. Samsung’s March 2025 generation included the Galaxy A26 5G, A36 5G, and A56 5G. A later Samsung corporate report records the A17 5G and A07 launching in August 2025, the A17 LTE in September 2025, and the A07 5G in January 2026. The report characterizes the A17 5G and A07 5G as entry-level 5G models; it is a dated record, not a complete global catalog for October 2026. Samsung’s lineup and availability can vary by country, region, and carrier.
That variation matters: “Galaxy A” alone does not tell you whether a phone has 5G, a particular processor, a specific screen, or water resistance. Compare full model names and local versions rather than assuming features carry across the family.
What distinguishes the A56, A36, and A26 generation
Samsung’s March 2025 announcement presented the A56 5G, A36 5G, and A26 5G around display, camera, software-support, durability, and “Awesome Intelligence” features. In the published specifications, the A56 uses an Exynos 1580 processor and the A36 a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3. Both were announced with a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display, a 5,000mAh battery, 45W charging, and an IP67 rating. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. Samsung’s March 2, 2025 announcement has the generation’s specifications.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.
- Camera: 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 2 MP, f/2.4, (macro). Battery: 5000 mAh, non-removable | A power adapter is NOT included.
Samsung described its AI branding as an effort to bring mobile AI to more users. TM Roh, then President and Head of Samsung Electronics’ Mobile eXperience Business, said the company was committed to “providing new ways to explore and capture the world around you through Awesome Intelligence.” That is Samsung’s positioning; it does not establish that every feature is available on every A-series model or in every market. Samsung’s March 28, 2025 launch announcement explains the branding and availability caveat.
A grounded example: Galaxy A56 5G
The A56 illustrates why checking the exact model is more useful than relying on the series name. Samsung lists an Exynos 1580, a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display, a 5,000mAh typical battery, and IP67 protection. Its UK product FAQ lists a 12MP ultra-wide, 50MP wide, and 5MP macro rear-camera system, plus a 12MP selfie camera. Camera configurations and feature availability should be checked against the product page for the buyer’s own market. Samsung UK’s Galaxy A56 5G page provides those specifications.

Software support and durability
Update commitment
For the A56, A36, and A26 models in its March 2025 announcement, Samsung stated up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades and six years of security updates. “Up to” is important: this is a maximum commitment, not a promise that every model receives identical updates on the same day. Samsung’s A56 page notes that availability and timing may vary by device model and market. See the announcement and the A56 product information.
IP67 is not a waterproof guarantee
Samsung describes the A56 as IP67-rated and says its rating is based on submersion in up to 1 meter of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. Samsung cautions against beach or pool use and says resistance to water and dust may diminish over time. Treat the rating as a limited test condition, not permission to expose the phone routinely to water. Samsung UK’s A56 FAQ details the qualification.

How to compare Galaxy A phones
Use the model number and the version sold in your market, then compare the specifications that affect your own use. A chipset name by itself is not enough to establish which phone will perform better in practice, and a specification from one model should not be applied to another.
- Price and availability: Check the current local price, storage configuration, and carrier offering. Samsung explicitly says availability can vary by country, region, and carrier.
- Processor: Confirm the exact chip for the exact model and market; do not infer real-world performance from chipset names alone.
- Display: Compare size, resolution, and panel type. The 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display documented for the A56 and A36 is not a family-wide specification.
- Cameras: Check the camera configuration and which software features are available on that model in your region.
- Battery and charging: Compare capacity and charging support rather than assuming one A-series battery specification applies throughout the line.
- Protection: Look for a stated water- and dust-resistance rating for the specific model, and read its test conditions.
- Support: Verify the model’s update commitment and account for Samsung’s note that timing and availability may vary.
- Connectivity: Confirm 5G support for the precise device and whether the relevant network bands and service are available from your carrier.
Prices and availability depend on market and date
Samsung announced global availability for the A56 5G, A36 5G, and A26 5G beginning March 28, 2025, while warning that availability could vary by country, region, and carrier. In a July 18, 2025 US newsroom update, Samsung listed the A56 5G at a starting price of $499.99 in the United States, with 128GB and 256GB variants. That is a historical US price, not a current quote or a price for other countries. Check Samsung or local retailers for current stock and pricing. Samsung’s US announcement and global launch notice describe those dated details.

Which Galaxy A phone should you consider?
Start with the phone’s exact model number and your local listing. If the features documented for the A56 5G matter to you—such as its stated display, processor, camera configuration, update commitment, or IP rating—verify that the version sold by your retailer matches those specifications. If you are considering an entry-level A17 or A07, check its own display, battery, processor, connectivity, and protection details rather than borrowing expectations from the A56. The available Samsung lineup evidence establishes that the family spans tiers; it does not establish one best Galaxy A phone for every buyer.
