Samsung confirmed that a limited number of Galaxy S25 Ultra photos can appear blurred when taken in Night Mode and said a software fix would roll out in an upcoming update. The reported distortion includes horizontal or vertical bands in low-light scenes. Samsung did not publish an affected-device count or identify a specific firmware build as the fix.
What Samsung confirmed
In a statement to Android Authority in February 2025, Samsung said it was aware of “a limited number of cases” in which Galaxy S25 Ultra Night Mode images appeared blurred, and that it had issued a fix for the next software update rolling out that week.
Reports described visible horizontal or vertical bands in affected low-light photos, including sky scenes. Although some owners also reported similar symptoms on the Galaxy S25 and S25 Plus, Samsung’s quoted confirmation specifically names the S25 Ultra. No public percentage or case count accompanied the company’s description.
How to check for the promised fix
- Open Settings > Software update > Download and install on your Galaxy S25 Ultra.
- Install the newest update offered for your device, then restart if prompted.
- Take a new Night Mode photo in similar low-light conditions and check whether the banding or blur remains.
Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra update catalogue lists continuing firmware releases, but it does not identify a particular build as the Night Mode fix. Firmware availability and update timing can vary by model, country, and service provider, so the latest build offered on one S25 Ultra may differ from another.

What the symptom may—and may not—tell you
The company’s promise of a software update points to a software remedy for the confirmed Night Mode problem, but Samsung has not published a deeper technical explanation of its cause. Its support guidance says Night Mode combines 30 images into one brighter picture, a multi-frame process that helps explain why a camera-processing issue can affect the finished image; it does not establish the precise failure mechanism.
Samsung also describes S25 Nightography improvements including 10-bit HDR video and movement-aware noise reduction in its camera-development interview. Those details provide context for the phone’s imaging software, not a diagnosis of the Night Mode bands.

Rule out a lens protector or cover
A camera lens protector or cover can independently interfere with focus or distort light. If images remain blurred or show artifacts, remove the accessory and take another test photo. Samsung’s camera troubleshooting guidance recommends checking accessories when focus or image quality is affected. An improvement after removing a protector may explain that particular photo problem; it does not show that the confirmed Night Mode banding was caused by an accessory.

- Mode: Check whether the distortion appears in Night Mode only or in other camera modes too.
- Pattern: Note whether the image is generally out of focus or has distinct horizontal or vertical bands.
- Device and update: Record the exact S25-series model, country or carrier, and installed firmware version.
- Accessories: Test without a lens protector or cover to see whether it changes the result.
If the problem continues after updating and testing without a lens accessory, contact Samsung Support or a Samsung service center. Include sample photos and the device’s model and software information so support can assess the remaining issue.
