Neither Samsung Care+ nor carrier phone insurance is automatically the better choice. For a Galaxy owner, the right pick depends on the exact device and state, the plan’s total cost over the time you expect to keep the phone, the deductible for your likely claim, and whether you value Samsung-authorized repair or coverage bundled across multiple devices.
What Samsung Care+ and carrier insurance have in common—and where they differ
Both can help with costly problems such as accidental damage, and plans may also include mechanical breakdown or loss and theft. But the names alone do not guarantee equivalent coverage. Standard Samsung Care+ does not include loss or theft; Samsung offers those protections through Care+ with Theft and Loss. Carrier plans such as Verizon Mobile Protect, AT&T Protect Advantage, and T-Mobile Protection 360 include loss and theft among their described coverages, alongside damage and post-warranty malfunctions, subject to the applicable plan terms.
Samsung Care+ is linked to eligible Samsung devices and highlights Samsung-authorized service. Carrier plans are tied to a carrier account and may offer multi-device coverage and additional account services. The specific certificate, device schedule, state rules, and current enrollment offer determine what a particular customer actually gets.
How the plans compare
| Plan | Coverage and service highlights | Published cost or claim-fee examples | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung Care+ | Unlimited accidental-damage repairs and mechanical-breakdown coverage. Samsung advertises $29 same-day cracked-screen and back-glass repair for eligible devices in select areas. | Care+ with Theft and Loss lists a $99–$199 deductible for an approved loss or theft claim, depending on device. Samsung says plan prices depend on the device’s manufacturer suggested retail price. | Theft and Loss has a maximum of three lost, stolen, or unrecoverable claims in any consecutive 12-month period. Repair availability and same-day service depend on location, approval time, parts, technician availability, and eligibility. Samsung Care+ plan details |
| Verizon Mobile Protect | Loss, theft, damage, and post-warranty malfunctions; support and other services are also listed, including screen-protector installation. | Verizon lists $16 or $19 per month for one device, depending on device; multi-device pricing is $38/month for two lines, $57/month for three, or $68/month for four to 20 lines. Its FAQ describes $0 cracked-glass repair and $99 for other damage. | These are Verizon’s published examples, not guaranteed quotes for every Galaxy or claim. Verizon directs customers to device-specific deductible information. Verizon Mobile Protect FAQs |
| AT&T Protect Advantage | AT&T consumer materials describe loss, theft, damage, and post-warranty malfunctions, with unlimited claims subject to plan limitations, including a per-occurrence device-value limit. | AT&T’s October 2025 brochure lists $16 or $19/month for one device in lower tiers and $25/month for tiers 5 and 6. Replacement deductibles in that brochure range from $25 to $400 by tier. | The make/model schedule determines the applicable tier and fee. Confirm current terms for the exact Galaxy rather than applying a generic tier or an older brochure. AT&T Protect Advantage brochure, October 2025 |
| T-Mobile Protection 360 | Charges and accidental-damage and loss/theft deductibles vary by device tier. | A T-Mobile/Assurant notice lists monthly charges effective March 1, 2026: $7, $9, $13, and $16 for tiers 1–4; $19 for tier 5 and BYOD; and $26 for tier 6. | Use the device schedule or current coverage certificate to determine the Galaxy’s tier and applicable deductible. Fees are subject to applicable tax. T-Mobile Protection 360 program notice |
The figures above are not a like-for-like price comparison: device tiers, service benefits, coverage limits, and claim fees differ. Monthly premiums and deductibles can also vary by state, device, and plan version.

Which one should you choose?
Consider Samsung Care+ if authorized Galaxy service is your priority
Samsung emphasizes genuine parts, Samsung-certified technicians, and repair through its authorized service channel. If you want protection connected directly to your Galaxy and value that repair route, compare Samsung Care+ with Theft and Loss against carrier plans that offer the same loss and theft protection. Standard Care+ is a different coverage level, so do not treat it as an equivalent substitute for a plan that covers a stolen or lost phone.
Consider a carrier plan if you want account-level or multi-device coverage
A carrier option may suit a household protecting several eligible devices under one account, or a customer whose exact-device quote offers a favorable loss/theft deductible and useful service benefits. Multi-device pricing can make sense only after checking which lines and devices are eligible, whether claims or limits are shared, and what the plan charges for each likely claim.

Do not decide from the monthly premium alone
Estimate your cost for the period you expect to keep the phone: monthly premium multiplied by the number of months, plus the deductible or repair fee for the claim you are most concerned about. For example, compare the two plans’ totals for a cracked screen and separately for a lost phone. A plan with a lower premium may still cost more when a replacement deductible is included. If you expect no claim, the premium is still a cost, not a guarantee of getting money back.

- Match the coverage. Compare loss/theft with loss/theft, accidental damage with accidental damage, and mechanical breakdown or battery terms separately. Confirm whether your preferred Samsung option is standard Care+ or Care+ with Theft and Loss.
- Confirm your device’s quote and tier. Use the exact Galaxy model and the current carrier or Samsung enrollment screen. A carrier’s deductible or monthly tier cannot safely be inferred from another model’s price.
- Read the claim limits. Samsung states a maximum of three lost, stolen, or unrecoverable claims in a consecutive 12-month period for Theft and Loss; accidental-damage repairs are described as unlimited, subject to terms. Carrier limits may apply by line, account, occurrence, or certificate.
- Check the repair or replacement route. Find out whether the plan sends the phone for repair, offers replacement or delivery, and where service is available. Samsung’s advertised same-day repair is conditional, not a guarantee; carrier service also depends on plan terms and local availability. Replacements may be new or refurbished, and Samsung says a comparable model may be substituted when the same model is unavailable.
- Verify enrollment eligibility and state terms. Samsung’s FAQ describes enrollment at purchase or within 60 days, while its indexed plan page also describes an eligibility path within one year with restrictions, including New York. There is no single deadline that applies to every customer: verify eligibility for the device, state, purchase date, and plan. Samsung Care+ FAQ
- Review the certificate before paying. Confirm exclusions, fees, claim process, cancellation terms, and whether any quoted price is recurring or tied to a specific coverage period. State-specific rules and plan versions can change.
Bottom line for Galaxy owners
Start with Samsung Care+ if Samsung-authorized repair is central to your decision; start with the carrier if you want to evaluate account-level or multi-device coverage. Then compare matching coverage using your actual device quote, ownership period, likely claim fee, and claim limits. The best choice is the one whose verified terms fit your phone and household—not simply the one with the lowest advertised monthly price.
