Salesforce Marketing Cloud Engagement can support a lead-generation workflow by capturing prospect information with CloudPages and using that data to trigger follow-up content through Journey Builder or, in some setups, Automation Studio. First, confirm which Salesforce Marketing Cloud product you have: Marketing Cloud Engagement, Marketing Cloud Next, and Marketing Cloud Account Engagement are separate products with different tools and data models.

Which Salesforce Marketing Cloud product does this cover?

This guide focuses on Marketing Cloud Engagement, also called SFMC or MCE. Its relevant tools include CloudPages, Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Content Builder, and data extensions. Salesforce’s [product comparison] distinguishes it from Marketing Cloud Next and Marketing Cloud Account Engagement; features and terminology should not be carried across products as if they were interchangeable.

Product Relevant tools and data approach What that means for this topic
Marketing Cloud Next Flow Builder, Data Cloud segments, and Experience Builder editors A separate product family. Do not assume Engagement’s CloudPages or Journey Builder workflow applies.
Marketing Cloud Account Engagement Formerly Pardot, also called MCAE; includes Engagement Studio, lists, Lightning email and landing-page builders, and classic forms A separate option, particularly relevant to B2B lead management. Its automation and capture tools differ from Engagement’s.
Marketing Cloud Engagement Also called SFMC or MCE; includes Journey Builder, Automation Studio, data extensions, Content Builder, and CloudPages The product covered here for CloudPages-based capture and nurture.

How does lead capture with CloudPages work?

CloudPages provides Salesforce-hosted web content in Marketing Cloud Engagement. A capture form can collect prospect information and contribute to an audience for subsequent nurture. Salesforce also describes built-in reports for monitoring performance.

  1. Publish a CloudPages page and capture form. Decide what prospect details the form should collect and how the page will be presented.
  2. Connect the captured information to the intended audience and data structure. The actual entry source, field mapping, and storage approach depend on your account configuration.
  3. Use eligible prospect data to begin follow-up. The form submission can be part of a capture-to-nurture workflow, subject to how the data and automation are configured.
  4. Review reporting. Use available reports to monitor the activity you have configured; the feature description alone does not establish a particular conversion result.

Salesforce explains CloudPages and capture forms in its [Marketing Cloud Engagement content guidance]. Do not assume every form automatically maps to a particular CRM field, data extension, or journey entry event: verify those details in the intended setup.

What can trigger nurture emails?

Salesforce identifies several kinds of data that can inform automated email follow-up, including lead-generation records for product education or demand-generation content, white-paper interactions, and subscriber profile interests. A practical workflow might be:

  1. A prospect submits a CloudPages form to request or access educational material.
  2. The configured process makes the relevant record or interaction available to the intended audience or automation.
  3. An automation route selects appropriate follow-up content based on the available data and the prospect’s interests or interaction.

This describes a design pattern, not an automatic default. The entry source, data extension or other audience structure, field mapping, eligibility rules, and consent state must be configured for the account. Salesforce’s [automated email use cases] discuss lead-generation records and other possible nurture triggers.

Which automation tool can run the follow-up?

Journey Builder

Journey Builder supports event-driven, responsive, multi-step communications. Salesforce describes journeys as a way to build customized, multiple-touch communications, and advises planning the data and content the journey needs as well as the timing of data activities. That planning matters because updates and journey activity can conflict if they are not coordinated. See Salesforce’s guide to [creating a multi-step journey].

Automation Studio

Journey Builder is not available in every account. Salesforce gives Marketing Cloud Engagement Professional Edition as an example of an account without Journey Builder and describes Automation Studio as an option for automating email sends in that scenario. Availability depends on edition and add-ons, so verify the account contract and enabled features before designing around either tool. Salesforce outlines this qualification in its [automated email guidance].

What should you check when connecting CRM or Experience Cloud data?

For the specific Experience Cloud site journey integration Salesforce documents, both an Experience Cloud license and a Marketing Cloud Engagement license are required. The setup also involves Marketing Cloud Connect and a decision about whether the journey uses contact data or user data. These are requirements for that described integration, not a general prerequisite for every CloudPages capture workflow.

Plan unsubscribe behavior across the connected systems. Salesforce warns that unsubscribe consistency matters to avoid sending email to someone who has opted out. Confirm how consent and unsubscribe status are represented and honored before activating the integration. See Salesforce’s [Experience Cloud and Journey Builder integration guidance].

When are APIs or custom extensions useful?

Marketing Cloud Engagement offers REST and SOAP APIs for programmatic work with areas including tracking, subscribers and lists, content, contacts, Journey Builder, mobile messaging, and campaigns. Packages can support custom applications or custom Journey Builder activities and events. These options are for specialized requirements; basic form capture and nurture do not, by themselves, imply a need for custom development. Salesforce’s [API and programmatic languages guide] describes the available developer paths.

What these features do—and do not—establish

CloudPages, data-driven triggers, and automated journeys provide building blocks for collecting prospect information and delivering follow-up. Salesforce’s feature and setup documentation describes those capabilities, but does not provide an attributable lead-conversion benchmark for this workflow. Results depend on implementation and audience response; the presence of a feature is not evidence of a guaranteed increase in leads or conversion.
