Choose a Sabritec RF part by first deciding whether you need a stand-alone connector or a coax contact integrated into a multi-pin connector. The SCX is the compact stand-alone option, with a published maximum VSWR of 1.25:1 from DC to 20 GHz. MHC contacts are intended for multi-pin applications: the 2014 catalogue specifies size 8 contacts to 26.5 GHz and size 12 contacts to 40 GHz, both at 50 ohms, for 0.086-inch flexible cable equivalent to RG-405.
Start with the interface you need
Sabritec is Smiths Interconnect’s brand for high-speed interconnect products, including coax and triax connectors, contacts, and cable assemblies, as well as quadrax, twinax, fibre-optic, and filter products. Its RF catalogue spans several connector and contact families; the family names alone do not establish that parts are interchangeable.
- Choose a connector family when the RF connection is a stand-alone interface. SCX is the clearly documented compact option in the available current product information.
- Choose a contact family when coaxial connections must be incorporated into a multi-pin connector. MHC is the documented high-frequency contact option, with specified size 8 and size 12 versions for particular connector cavities.
- Check the exact part drawing for interface, cavity, cable, termination, and mechanical details before specifying or ordering. The older full-line catalogue is a design reference; confirm current drawings and availability with Smiths Interconnect.
SCX and MHC: the documented RF specifications
SCX and MHC address different packaging needs. The figures below come from Smiths Interconnect’s current SCX product page (accessed 2026) and Smiths Connectors’ MHC catalogue (copyright 2014). They are not evidence that the families mate with one another.

When SCX is the better fit
SCX is the documented choice when the design calls for a compact, stand-alone 50-ohm connector pair and operation through 20 GHz. Smiths Interconnect specifies a maximum 1.25:1 VSWR from DC to 20 GHz, a maximum diameter of 0.145 inch, and a mated-pair length of 0.375 inch. Those dimensions describe the pair, not an individual connector.

When MHC is the better fit
MHC is intended for high-frequency coax paths carried inside multi-pin connectors. The 2014 catalogue distinguishes size 8 and size 12 contacts by maximum frequency: size 8 is specified to 26.5 GHz, while size 12 is specified to 40 GHz. Both use 50-ohm impedance and are designed for 0.086-inch flexible cable equivalent to RG-405.

Confirm the cavity and connector configuration
The catalogue lists MHC compatibility with size 8 and size 12 cavities in MIL-DTL-38999 and ARINC interfaces, and size 8 MIL-DTL-24308 D-Sub configurations. That is configuration-specific compatibility, not a blanket statement that every MHC contact fits every connector under those standards. Check the required connector series, cavity size, contact arrangement, and part drawing.
Account for installation and environmental requirements
The MHC catalogue summary describes spring-loaded, float-mount sockets and an operating range of −65°C to +165°C. Its listed insertion-loss figures are 0.15 dB to 26.5 GHz for size 8 and 0.2 dB to 40 GHz for size 12. Because these figures come from a 2014 catalogue, verify the current specification and the test or configuration details relevant to the intended assembly with Smiths Interconnect.

Other families in the Sabritec RF catalogue
The full-line catalogue also organizes the range into MDCX and MDHC connectors, SMP and SMPM connectors, conformable torque-assist SMA, coaxial contacts, ground-plane connectors, and cable-assembly ordering. The available family-level information does not provide comparable frequency, VSWR, impedance, cable, termination, dimensional, or environmental specifications for these entries. Use the relevant current product documentation to compare them; do not select a family from its name alone.
