First check what is crashing: if the Ryujinx window never opens, troubleshoot the app’s location, permissions, antivirus, and graphics setup. If Ryujinx opens but a game closes on launch, open the latest log and find the error immediately before the guest stack trace. That line usually points to a more useful diagnosis than the generic crash message.
Why does Ryujinx crash on startup?
“Startup crash” can mean two different things: Ryujinx itself will not launch, or the emulator opens and a game crashes when launched. The remedies differ, so note which behavior you see, whether it affects every game or just one, and whether it began after an update or settings change.
The original Ryujinx project was discontinued on October 1, 2024. The current Ryubing documentation describes Ryubing as a fork for existing Ryujinx users; its project overview explains the transition and available build channels: Ryubing project overview.
Ryujinx won’t open—what should I check?
Move it out of a protected location
Ryubing’s setup guide says the application uses its application-data directory by default and warns against protected locations such as the desktop or the root of a drive. Check where you extracted or installed it and use a normal application folder rather than a protected path. The guide lists Windows 10.0.17134 or later, macOS 12, or a modern Linux distribution among its operating-system requirements: setup and configuration guide.

Check antivirus interference and permissions
Third-party antivirus software may block or remove emulator files. Review its quarantine and protection history before restoring anything, and only allow files you trust and obtained from the project. Permission errors can also involve the save folder; verify that your account can access it. Back up save data before changing or deleting any save files.
Check graphics drivers and hardware support
If launch errors mention Vulkan initialization, a missing vulkan-1.dll, or no suitable GPU, update the graphics drivers and verify that the GPU supports OpenGL 4.5 or Vulkan 1.2 or higher. On a laptop with AMD integrated graphics and Nvidia discrete graphics, update both adapters. A driver update cannot add graphics capabilities the GPU does not support. Ryubing’s setup guide also lists at least 8 GB of RAM as a requirement.

Check the controller only if you have the reported model
The troubleshooting FAQ records a silent-launch issue reported with a “defender omega” controller. If that is the controller you use, disconnect it and try launching again; this is a model-specific check, not a general controller fix. See the FAQ and troubleshooting guide.

Open the latest log using File > Open Logs Folder, then inspect the lines before the guest stack trace. The official troubleshooting FAQ explains that the preceding context can identify the failure; a guest stack trace by itself does not necessarily mean the emulator crashed. As the FAQ puts it, “This means the game itself crashed, and not the emulator.”

Firmware parsing errors, missing keys, or RYU-0003
These errors point to keys or firmware that are missing, invalid, or out of date. Check that you have valid keys and firmware installed and that your keys are at least as new as the firmware. If the files are not valid, redump them using the documented setup process. Obtain keys, firmware, and games only through your own lawful dumps; the project does not provide copyrighted files.

The FAQ associates this error with a corrupted or invalid game or update file. Preserve backups, then use the documented setup process to determine which file is affected and redump that file if needed. Do not replace it with a download from an unofficial source.

Vulkan initialization errors or ErrorDeviceLost
For Vulkan initialization failures, a missing vulkan-1.dll, or a “no suitable GPU” message, update the graphics drivers and check that the GPU meets the documented graphics requirement. If the system has AMD integrated and Nvidia discrete graphics, update both adapters.

Could not map view of backing memory after an update
The FAQ gives an ESET-specific HIPS exception suggestion for this error. Consider that route only if you use ESET and the log shows this exact message; it is not a general antivirus setting to change. Consult the troubleshooting FAQ for the documented exception guidance.
Old GTK launch errors
Some GTK launch errors in the FAQ apply to older user-interface builds. If you see one, check whether you are using an older build and redownload or update where possible. Do not treat these messages as a universal problem with current builds.

How to collect useful information if the crash persists
- Reproduce the problem, then open the latest log with File > Open Logs Folder.
- Keep normal logging enabled. Leave debug logging disabled unless project staff request it.
- Record whether the emulator window opens, whether the issue affects all games or one, and whether it began after an update or settings change.
- Share the latest log and a clear description through the project’s support channel. Do not include copyrighted games, keys, or firmware.
