You can run Debian on an Android phone without rooting it by installing Termux and using PRoot-Distro. The result is a Debian userland—a Linux filesystem and package environment—inside Termux. Android remains the operating system, and Debian programs use Android’s kernel.
What this Debian setup actually gives you
PRoot-Distro is a Termux utility for managing rootless Linux userlands. It uses PRoot to provide a chroot-like environment without requiring device root, and Debian is one of the distributions it can install. That makes it useful for exploring Debian tools and packages from an Android phone or tablet.
It does not replace Android with Debian. Nor does it root the phone. PRoot can make a process appear to have a root identity inside the environment by faking identity and selected operations; that is not the same as gaining privileged access to Android.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The Debian Bookworm PRoot manual explains that guest programs run using the host kernel. PRoot can also expose host files through explicit binds, so access to Android storage or other host paths depends on how the environment is configured. Do not assume Debian has unrestricted access to the phone.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

Install Debian in Termux
The documented setup uses Termux from F-Droid or the Termux GitHub Releases, then installs PRoot-Distro from Termux’s package manager. The project’s README documents the commands below; consult it for current installation details if package availability or command behavior changes.

Install Termux using one of the distribution sources listed by the PRoot-Distro project.

Open Termux and install the utility:
pkg install proot-distro -
Install Debian:
proot-distro install debian -
Enter the Debian shell:
proot-distro login debian
Once logged in, you are working in the Debian userland. The commands do not install a native Debian operating system, change Android’s kernel, or grant Android root access.
Choose this route for a Debian userland, not a new phone OS
The Debian Wiki’s Android overview distinguishes rootless Termux-based environments from chroot approaches that require rooting. Termux with PRoot-Distro suits the goal of running Debian tools without rooting the device. If your goal is to replace Android or obtain capabilities that require privileged access, this is not that solution; investigate device-specific options and their requirements separately.

PRoot-Distro lists running a desktop-class Linux distribution on a phone or tablet as a possible use case, but that is not a guarantee that a particular desktop, application, or configuration will work on every device. A Bluetooth keyboard can be a convenient optional accessory for longer terminal sessions, but it is not required for installation.

Because Debian processes use Android’s kernel, software that depends on particular kernel features, device hardware, or privileged services may not work as it would on a conventional Debian installation. A chroot-like filesystem environment does not by itself make every Android hardware feature available to Linux programs.
