A new Ape Escape may be in development, according to comments attributed to insider NateTheHate—but PlayStation has not officially announced a game. The comments reportedly rule out Team Asobi and say Bandai Namco is not involved “to my knowledge,” with that second point still subject to verification.
What does the Ape Escape rumor actually say?
In an October 2, 2026 report, Gameranx attributed the claim to NateTheHate, who had reportedly said PlayStation was looking to bring back dormant franchises and indicated that an Ape Escape project was among them.

“Not Asobi.”
“Bamco is not involved, to my knowledge. But I’d have to check further to be 100% certain, as it has been a while since I last checked in on the project.”

Has PlayStation announced a new Ape Escape?
No official announcement appears in the material reviewed. There is no confirmed title, developer, platform, release date or description of the project. The rumor establishes neither that the game is in production nor what form it might take.

Is Team Asobi making it?
The claim attributed to NateTheHate says “Not Asobi.” That is the clearest reported developer-related detail, but it remains an insider claim rather than an official statement. No replacement studio has been named in the reported material.
Is Bandai Namco involved?
That remains uncertain. NateTheHate reportedly said Bandai Namco was not involved “to my knowledge” and added that he would check further. The caveat leaves room for correction, so it is more accurate to say the reported claim currently points away from Bandai Namco than to state definitively that the company is uninvolved.

Would it be a new game or a remake?
The available report does not answer that question. It could refer to a new installment or a remake, but neither possibility has been confirmed. The same uncertainty applies to platform: the report raises PS5 versus a later PlayStation system as an open question and does not establish either one. It also does not confirm PlayStation exclusivity.
Why is an Ape Escape revival notable?
According to Gameranx, the last main-series Ape Escape game was released in 2005, and the last game of any kind was the PlayStation Move title for PS3 in 2010. The long gap helps explain the interest in a revival rumor, but it does not provide independent evidence that a new game is underway. Gameranx also describes Team Asobi as a successor to Sony’s Japan Studio, which was a main developer behind the franchise.
What to watch for next
Until Sony or a named studio confirms the project, the practical answers remain limited: the revival is a rumor, Team Asobi is reportedly not involved, and the Bandai Namco detail is unsettled. Any announcement would need to clarify who is developing the game, whether it is a sequel or remake, and its platform and timing.
