NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5070 is the most prevalent individual GPU in Valve’s September 2026 Steam Hardware & Software Survey, appearing in 5.86% of surveyed systems. The same snapshot puts 16GB of GPU memory at 27.21%, up slightly from the previous month. These figures describe survey respondents—not sales or all PC owners—and the GPU’s reported monthly jump may partly reflect a change in who responded.

What is the most popular GPU on Steam?

Valve’s September 2026 Steam Hardware & Software Survey lists the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 at 5.86% of surveyed systems, making it the leading individual GPU in that month’s snapshot. Valve reports a monthly change of +2.30 percentage points.

That is a prevalence measure within Steam’s survey, not a count of cards sold, a market-share estimate, or a census of PC owners. It also does not mean that 5.86% of all gaming PCs use the card.

Are 16GB graphics cards becoming more common?

In September’s survey, the 16GB GPU-memory category accounted for 27.21% of surveyed systems, an increase of 0.29 percentage points from the previous month. This establishes a rise in that monthly comparison; the cited figures alone do not establish a longer-term upward trend.

Why might the September figures have moved so sharply?

Hardware Busters reported a seven-percentage-point shift in Simplified Chinese respondents and said it may have contributed to changes in September’s results. That is a possible influence on the survey’s sample composition, not proof that it caused the RTX 5070’s increase. The monthly movement should not be read as evidence that an equivalent number of people bought the card.

Does the survey confirm the RTX 5070 has 12GB of memory?

No. Valve’s survey identifies the RTX 5070 but does not verify its VRAM capacity. The “12GB” figure appears in the title-matched PC Guide coverage, but the sources cited here do not independently establish that specification. The survey’s separate 16GB category describes GPU memory reported across surveyed systems; it does not say that the RTX 5070 has 16GB.

What the survey can—and cannot—tell you

  • It can: show which individual GPUs and memory categories appeared most often in Valve’s September 2026 respondent snapshot.
  • It cannot: establish unit sales, universal PC ownership, why a category changed, or whether a GPU is good value.
  • For a buying decision: compare current local prices and availability, performance at your target resolution and settings, VRAM, power requirements, case clearance, and software features. A survey ranking alone does not make a card the best choice.
