Flickr lets you download a photo in one of the sizes it offers: open the photo page, select Download, and choose a size. It does not document a control for entering custom pixel dimensions, so if none of the offered sizes fits, download an available copy and resize it separately in an image editor.
Download a Flickr photo in another available size
- Open the photo’s page on Flickr.
- Select the Download icon.
- Choose the size you want. Flickr says the photo then downloads automatically.
The choices depend on the image and your access to it. Flickr’s download instructions describe selecting from available sizes, not setting a custom width and height. Flickr’s download guide was updated September 8, 2025.
Why the original or a large size may be unavailable
Since May 15, 2025, Free accounts cannot offer downloads of originals or large-size photos above 1024 pixels. Flickr says the restriction applies to photos owned by Free members, including content belonging to other Free members; medium and smaller sizes remain downloadable. Free members can still upload photos of accepted file sizes, but that does not mean visitors can download those files at full size. Flickr announced the change on April 15, 2025.
For a Pro member’s own photos, full-size and original downloads can be allowed when permissions are enabled. A missing download choice can therefore reflect the account or photo’s download permissions, not a problem with the download steps.

Download permissions and display size are different settings
Flickr’s Best display size controls the maximum size at which an image is displayed on Flickr; it does not by itself grant visitors permission to download the original. Flickr’s help page, updated April 1, 2026, documents a maximum Best display size of 2048 pixels for Free accounts and 6144 pixels for Pro accounts. These display limits should not be read as download entitlements. See Flickr’s download permissions guide for the distinction and current settings.
For photo owners
Owners manage download access under Account > Privacy & Permissions. Hiding original access does not remove every smaller-size download. If you need to prevent large-size downloads, Flickr’s guidance is to upload a smaller version of the file.

For people downloading someone else’s photo
What you can download depends on the owner’s settings, account limits, and the photo’s status. Flickr identifies Creative Commons-licensed photos (unless private), Public Domain works, and Flickr Commons content as exceptions to the usual restrictions on original downloads. A photo being visible or downloadable does not automatically mean you may reuse it; check the specific image’s license and terms before publishing or otherwise reusing it.

If Flickr does not offer the dimensions you need, download a permitted size and resize that copy using separate image-editing software. The choice of editor depends on your device and needs; Flickr’s documented workflow does not specify a built-in custom-dimension setting.
