To reset a Samsung Galaxy Camera app, use Reset settings inside Camera or clear Camera’s app data in Android Settings. Both are app-level options; neither is the whole-phone factory reset. Samsung says clearing Camera data preserves saved photos and videos. The right choice depends on whether you want to restore Camera preferences or troubleshoot a fault.
Choose the right kind of reset

For most Camera problems, start with Reset settings. Use Clear data if you want the separate app-level reset or the first option is unavailable. A factory data reset is not the routine way to reset Camera. Samsung’s separate Reset all settings option is also not a factory reset and does not erase apps or personal data.
How do I reset my Samsung camera settings?
- Open the Camera app.
- Open Camera settings. On Galaxy S25 series phones and devices running One UI 7.0 or later, Samsung’s instructions say to tap the four-dot Quick settings icon first, then open Settings.
- Tap Reset settings.
- Confirm the reset when prompted.
Samsung includes this reset among its troubleshooting steps for Camera errors. Menu names and layouts can vary by model and software version. If the route differs, search Settings for Camera or consult the manual for your device. Samsung’s Camera troubleshooting guide

Will clearing Camera data delete my photos?
No. Samsung says clearing Camera app data restores Camera settings to their defaults but does not delete saved photos, videos, or other personal data. How to clear the Camera app’s data
- Open the phone’s Settings.
- Tap Apps, then choose Camera.
- Tap Storage, then Clear data.
- Tap Delete to confirm.
Labels may vary slightly across Galaxy models and software versions. If you cannot find Camera in the Apps list, use Settings search for “Camera.”
If resetting Camera does not fix the problem
A reset may help with issues such as “Camera Failed,” “Cannot launch Camera,” freezing, lag, or a preview that does not work, but it does not guarantee a repair or identify a hardware fault. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance also recommends restarting the device, updating Camera, updating the Galaxy device, and continuing with its troubleshooting steps. - Try a restart if Camera is frozen or behaving inconsistently.
- Check for updates to Camera and the device if the problem continues.
- Run a diagnostic in Samsung Members, where the app is installed. Samsung says Members can check camera status. Samsung’s Camera support guidance
- Contact Samsung support or seek repair guidance if the fault persists. A settings reset cannot determine whether a camera component is defective.
Why a factory reset is a separate last resort
A factory data reset affects the entire phone or tablet, not just Camera, and deletes personal data. Samsung recommends backing up important information before proceeding; account credentials may also be required during setup or the reset. Do not choose it just to restore Camera preferences.
