The report cited unnamed people familiar with the discussions; it did not establish that AMD signed a deal, and it said an agreement might not happen.
What was reported about AMD and Intel Foundry?
Semafor’s Rohan Goswami reported that Intel was talking with AMD about adding the company as a customer at Intel factories. Intel and AMD spokespeople declined to comment. The report described the discussions as early-stage and did not cite a public announcement from either company. Read Semafor’s report.
That makes this a report of possible negotiations—not confirmation that AMD will manufacture chips at Intel. Semafor explicitly left open the possibility that the talks would not produce an agreement.
Did AMD sign a manufacturing deal with Intel?
The cited report did not establish a signed contract or any manufacturing commitment. It also did not say how much AMD production might shift to Intel or whether AMD would invest directly. No product, process node, production schedule, investment amount, or probability of a deal was disclosed in the report.

Intel’s later filing describes its foundry services for outside customers and its goal of growing that business, while saying nearly all Intel Foundry business supports Intel’s own products. The excerpt does not name AMD as a customer, so it provides context about Intel’s strategy—not evidence of an AMD agreement. See Intel’s filing.
Why might AMD consider Intel Foundry?
Analysts cited by Network World discussed potential advantages of U.S. manufacturing and supply diversification. Moor Insights & Strategy principal analyst Anshel Sag said domestic production could matter if AMD were expected to manufacture in the U.S. for defense contracts or supercomputer deals. Forrester senior analyst Alvi Nguyen pointed to the value of securing local capacity amid competition for manufacturing capacity at TSMC. These are analysts’ interpretations, not confirmed AMD motives or deal terms. Read Network World’s analysis.

How would Intel fit into AMD’s manufacturing strategy?
In its October 2025 report, Semafor described AMD’s chips as being produced mostly by Taiwan-based TSMC and said Intel then lacked the technology to make AMD’s most advanced, profitable chips. That is a dated assessment in the context of the report, not a timeless verdict on either company’s capabilities. Semafor did not report that AMD planned to replace TSMC or move any particular chip to Intel.
If AMD were to consider another manufacturing partner, the practical questions would include whether that partner can make the specific chip, whether it has suitable capacity, how production location affects supply resilience, and what costs or investment commitments apply. The report established no AMD-specific answer on any of those points.
