Its stated approach is to retrieve structured codec, container, and delivery information from a Sanity knowledge base before recommending settings—and to say when the available evidence does not establish an answer.
What RenderProof does
RenderProof is designed to help creators and video engineers choose a codec, container, and FFmpeg settings for a delivery task. In Tim’s project description, Sanity holds structured claims, compatibility rules, delivery profiles, pipeline recipes, and editorial decisions. RenderProof retrieves relevant records through Sanity Context MCP before answering. The project article describes the design; it does not independently verify code quality, deployment, or current service availability. Read Tim’s project article on DEV Community.
That makes RenderProof a decision-support layer around video-delivery knowledge, rather than software that encodes or transcodes video. FFmpeg itself is the tool that reads inputs and writes outputs, including for media conversion and transcoding; its documentation covers command-line tools, codecs, formats, filters, libraries, and related topics. FFmpeg documentation.
How its evidence-first approach is meant to work
The project’s model organizes information as source documents and claims, codec and container profiles, compatibility rules, delivery profiles, pipeline recipes, and decisions. The intended benefit is traceability: a recommendation can be tied to retrieved records, while absent or conflicting evidence is surfaced rather than silently filled in.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Tim describes the application as using Sanity Context MCP to retrieve records, with a server exposing MCP tools to DeepSeek through the Vercel AI SDK MCP client. The server returns streamed NDJSON events so the browser can show tool activity, the answer, and citations. The author reports seeing initial_context and knowledge_base_read activity during a tested path; those are project-reported implementation details, not independently reproduced test results.
The practical distinction is between “not documented” and “safe.” A missing rule in the knowledge base is not evidence that a setting works. Likewise, a conflict between sources needs an explicit resolution, not a confident-sounding guess. RenderProof’s stated policy is to generate FFmpeg commands only from retrieved evidence.

What the libx264 and MP4 example establishes
The project’s demonstration asks: “Can I use libx264 nal-hrd=cbr for MP4, and is any fallback container established by the Knowledge Base?” Tim reports that the captured FFmpeg documentation says libx264 with nal-hrd=cbr is not allowed in MP4. The knowledge base also contained a competing suggestion of MKV or MPEG-TS, but the resolution preserved in Sanity was that the indexed source did not establish a fallback container.
- For the stated combination: the project reports a documented incompatibility with MP4.
- For a fallback: the indexed evidence did not establish one. That does not prove that every other container is invalid; it means the knowledge base could not support a recommendation for one.
That distinction matters in delivery work. A useful agent should separate a known constraint from an unverified alternative, and should not turn a missing fallback into a claim that no fallback exists.

Where its coverage is incomplete
Tim identifies authoritative platform-specific and HDR delivery limits as gaps in the knowledge base. The stated behavior is to report missing destination or platform specifications instead of inventing limits. As a result, the project article does not establish that RenderProof can currently answer platform delivery questions or HDR requirements comprehensively.
For any real job, the destination matters: a codec/container combination that is technically possible may still not meet a platform’s upload, playback, or HDR requirements. Do not treat a RenderProof answer as destination-specific unless its supporting evidence identifies the relevant platform and specifications.

Project scale and what the figures mean
In Tim’s September 2026 project article, he reported 29 seed documents and 14 built Knowledge Base entries across three sources. These are counts of project materials at that time, not measures of recommendation accuracy, coverage, adoption, or reliability.

Before applying any generated setting, check that its evidence matches the job you are doing. Useful questions include:

- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- Does the cited rule cover the exact codec, container, and option value?
- Is the FFmpeg behavior tied to the version installed on your system?
- Does the evidence identify the intended platform, delivery profile, or destination?
- If sources disagree, does the answer show how that conflict was resolved?
- Can each generated command option be traced to retrieved documentation or a knowledge-base rule?
FFmpeg says its documentation is regenerated nightly and advises users of older versions to consult the documentation installed locally. Compatibility can be version-sensitive, so verify behavior against the documentation for the FFmpeg version you will actually run. FFmpeg’s documentation guidance.
These checks also provide a sensible way to evaluate any video-delivery assistant. Evidence traceability, scope across codec/container/version, conflict handling, destination-specific coverage, and source-linked commands are design criteria—not comparative performance results established for RenderProof.
