For a fair comparison, match the 5G models: the Redmi Note 15 5G has a faster-refreshing display, larger stated battery and faster wired charging, while the Galaxy A17 5G has Samsung’s explicit promise of six Android OS upgrades and six years of security support. There is no reliable universal price difference: compare the same network version and storage capacity in your country on the same date.
First, make sure you are comparing the same versions
Both phone families include 4G and 5G models, and the specifications differ by variant. The main comparison below is between the Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 5G and Samsung Galaxy A17 5G. Xiaomi’s global product page and Samsung’s Ireland product page document those 5G models. Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 5G specifications and Samsung Galaxy A17 5G specifications are the primary references; Samsung’s listed configuration is 4GB RAM and 128GB storage, so availability and configurations can vary by market.
Do not treat a 4G-to-5G comparison as an equivalent matchup. A comparison of the Galaxy A17 4G with the Redmi Note 15 5G, for example, crosses network variants. EligeMovil’s cross-variant comparison illustrates why checking the full model name matters.

Where the Redmi Note 15 5G has the edge
Display refresh rate and size
Xiaomi lists a 6.77-inch, 120Hz panel, compared with Samsung’s 6.7-inch, 90Hz display. The Redmi’s higher refresh rate can make supported scrolling and motion look smoother; it does not by itself establish better overall display quality. Xiaomi also advertises peak brightness of up to 3200 nits, but the two manufacturers’ brightness figures may use different measurement methods, so they should not be treated as a direct brightness test.
Battery capacity and charging figures
Xiaomi specifies a 5520mAh typical battery and 45W wired charging, plus 18W reverse charging. Samsung lists a 5000mAh typical battery, and the matched comparison gives its wired charging rate as 25W. Those figures favor Xiaomi for capacity and charging rate, but they do not prove that it lasts longer in everyday use: screen settings, signal conditions, workload and software all affect battery life.

Camera resolution and video modes
The Redmi’s listed main camera is 108MP; Samsung’s is 50MP, and Samsung confirms optical image stabilization (OIS). The matched comparison lists a Redmi 8MP ultrawide camera and 4K video at up to 30fps, while Samsung lists 5MP and 2MP additional rear cameras and 1080p video at 30fps. These are feature differences, not a reliable ranking of photo quality. Megapixels alone do not show how well a camera handles focus, motion, color or low light.
Chipset and third-party benchmark figures
The matched comparison identifies Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 in the Redmi and Exynos 1330 in the Galaxy. EligeMovil lists AnTuTu scores of 840,643 and 613,799 respectively. These are publisher-reported comparison figures; the benchmark version and test conditions are not stated, and they are not results from a controlled test conducted for this article. Use them as limited context, not as a guarantee of how a particular game or app will run.

Where the Galaxy A17 5G has the edge
A clearly stated software-support commitment
Samsung advertises six OS upgrades and six years of security support for the Galaxy A17 5G. Its Ireland product page lists 31 August 2031 as the end of the security update period. That date and the listed 4GB/128GB configuration are specific to the Ireland page; check Samsung’s local listing for your market. Xiaomi’s global Redmi page advertises six years of security updates but does not state the same OS-upgrade count. OS upgrades and security updates are distinct commitments.
Durability details
Samsung specifies IP54 and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. Xiaomi advertises IP66 and cautions that water- and dust-resistance performance applies under laboratory conditions and can deteriorate. IP ratings describe resistance under defined test conditions; neither phone should be treated as damage-proof.

Which phone should you buy?
Choose the Redmi Note 15 5G if
- You value a 120Hz display and the larger stated screen.
- You want the higher listed battery capacity, faster wired charging or reverse charging.
- The 4K video option or the listed camera hardware fits your needs, while recognizing that specifications do not replace photo and video samples.
Choose the Galaxy A17 5G if
- Samsung’s stated six OS upgrades and six years of security support matter most, and its local support terms suit how long you plan to keep the phone.
- You prefer Samsung’s listed display, build details or available configuration in your market.
- It is the better-priced option locally after you match storage and verify that both listings are for 5G models.
Before ordering, check the network variant and storage printed on the seller’s listing, then compare the final local prices. Xiaomi says its global product page does not include a power adapter in the box and recommends a 45W PD-compatible charger or Xiaomi’s official 45W adapter; regional bundles can differ, so confirm box contents.
