The Redmi 17 5G is a sensible India-market option if your priorities are a very large battery, a big screen and basic 5G daily use—but the under-₹25,000 value applies only to its 6GB/128GB listing, not every configuration. Its 7,900mAh battery and stated software-support commitment stand out; its 6.9-inch HD+ screen, bulky handling and review-reported weak low-light photos are the main compromises.
Redmi 17 5G price in India: which version is under ₹25,000?
As listed by 91mobiles on October 4, 2026, the 6GB/128GB model is ₹23,999, while the 8GB/128GB model starts at ₹26,999. These are listings, not guaranteed checkout prices, and prices or offers can change. Check the live price and configuration before buying. 91mobiles’ India price listing
The launch pricing helps explain why current prices may look very different from the original sticker prices. India Today reported sticker prices of ₹39,999 for 6GB/128GB and ₹41,999 for 8GB/128GB on September 3, 2026, alongside introductory net effective prices of ₹23,999 and ₹26,999. Those effective prices were introductory, not a guarantee that every variant would remain below ₹25,000. India sales began September 10 through Xiaomi channels and Amazon, according to the launch coverage. India Today’s launch coverage

That capacity is unusually large, but it does not establish a specific number of hours or days between charges. Xiaomi’s global product page describes its endurance claim as based on a simulated comprehensive moderate-use laboratory scenario and says actual results vary with environment, software, network and usage. That is a manufacturer test description, not an independent runtime measurement. The global page also says an adapter is not included; that packaging statement is for the global product page and should not be applied to the India box claim. Display: large and smooth, but still HD+
The phone has a 6.9-inch (17.53cm) HD+ display with up to a 120Hz AdaptiveSync refresh rate, according to Xiaomi India. The high refresh rate can make supported motion look smoother, but it does not increase the panel’s resolution: this remains an HD+ screen. Buyers who value a sharper image or richer display technology should weigh that compromise against the large viewing area. Xiaomi India’s specifications

Performance, cameras and everyday handling
Everyday performance
The Redmi 17 5G uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 5, built on a 4nm process, and is positioned for everyday use with 5G connectivity. The available evidence does not establish benchmark results or performance in demanding games, so do not treat the processor name alone as proof of high-end gaming capability. Xiaomi’s India product page lists the chipset and configurations. Xiaomi India’s REDMI 17 5G product page

Rear cameras
Xiaomi specifies a 50MP AI dual rear-camera system. Megapixel count describes sensor resolution, not overall image quality. In its October 3, 2026 review, 91mobiles reported flat-looking low-light photos, a practical drawback for people who frequently shoot indoors or at night. That is a review finding, not a conclusion that follows from the specification sheet. 91mobiles’ review and specifications
Size and protection
At 6.9 inches, this is a large phone. 91mobiles’ review identifies bulky handling as a trade-off, so try the phone in hand if pocketability or one-handed use matters to you. Xiaomi lists IP64 dust and splash protection and Gorilla Glass 7i; IP64 is not a waterproofing claim. Xiaomi India’s product page

Software support
Xiaomi states that the Redmi 17 5G runs HyperOS 3 based on Android 16 and will receive four years of OS updates and six years of security updates. These are the manufacturer’s stated commitments; the product information does not specify exact update delivery dates for each device or market. Xiaomi India’s REDMI 17 5G product page
Redmi 17 5G vs Redmi Note 17 5G: when to consider the upgrade
The 91mobiles comparison section lists the Redmi Note 17 5G at ₹27,999, with an OLED display and 8,000mAh capacity. That is above the Redmi 17 5G’s ₹25,000 price ceiling at the listed price, and its price should also be checked at purchase. The available comparison supports those listed differences, but not a full performance or camera verdict between the phones. 91mobiles’ comparison and price listing

Should you buy the Redmi 17 5G?
Consider it if the 6GB/128GB version is actually available near ₹23,999 and your priorities are battery capacity, a large screen and routine 5G use. Think twice if you want a compact handset, a sharper-than-HD+ display or dependable low-light photography. The 8GB/128GB listing starts above ₹25,000, so the headline budget fit does not extend to that configuration at the cited price.
