Start by identifying the exact Mexico mod you installed: a map expansion and a minimap replacement are different mods with different requirements. Check that mod’s current page, confirm its prerequisites and file locations, then match the fix to the symptom. One prominent Mexico Expansion Project page is marked outdated, while the Nuevo Paraiso map project is described as unfinished early access.
First, identify which Mexico mod and symptom you have
“Mexico mod” can refer to several different RDR2 downloads. For example, Nuevo Paraiso is a map project, while Mexico on Minimap changes the minimap. The Mexico Expansion Project has its own installation notes and behaviors. Their dependencies and fixes are not interchangeable.
Before changing files, note the mod’s exact name and version, the download page you used, your RDR2 edition or build, and what is failing: the game will not launch, Mexico is absent, the minimap is unchanged, content is missing, a barrier blocks access, or a train has not appeared.
The Mexico Expansion Project page is explicitly marked outdated and links to a newer version. Check that newer page for current instructions before applying steps from the old page; its current compatibility details are not established here.

Check the exact mod’s requirements
Nuevo Paraiso Mexico mod
The Nuevo Paraiso Mexico mod WIP page describes the project as an early-access, unfinished transfer of part of RDR1’s Nuevo Paraiso map into RDR2. It lists ScriptHook, Lenny’s Mod Loader (LML), Rampage Trainer, Online Content Unlocker, and a legal copy of the game among its requirements and instructions. The page recommends testing with a clean game and only those requirements installed. It was last updated October 19, 2023, so verify its page for any newer guidance.
Mexico on Minimap
The Mexico on Minimap page describes a minimap remake that adds Nuevo Paraíso to the RDR2 minimap. It lists ScriptHookRDR2 and LML as requirements and instructs users to place the supplied lml folder in the game directory. The page identifies version 2.1 and was last updated March 11, 2024; check it for current instructions.

Do not install every dependency listed across these projects. Follow the current requirements for the mod you actually use, including any stated exclusions or conflicts. A requirement for one Mexico mod does not establish that another needs it.
Verify the install location and folder structure
Some mod files belong in the game’s root folder; others belong in LML’s structure. The Mexico Expansion Project’s page instructs users to move its lml folder and .asi files to the game root. The RDR2 Comprehensive Modding Guide defines the root as the installation folder containing RDR2.exe and distinguishes ASI script mods from LML asset-replacement mods.

- Open the installation folder that contains
RDR2.exe. - Compare the extracted package with the specific mod page’s instructions. Put root-level files there only when that page says to.
- For LML content, check that the expected mod folders are present and that extraction has not created an unintended extra nested directory.
- If the package or mod manager provides a different installation method, follow that method rather than assuming every archive should be copied into the root.
Use the precise package instructions: the surfaced pages do not establish one universal layout for all Mexico mods.
Isolate conflicts with a clean baseline
If the mod is installed but its content is missing or the game behaves unexpectedly, test with the base game, the exact Mexico mod, and only its stated requirements. The Nuevo Paraiso page recommends a clean setup, and the general modding guide notes that mods can be incompatible.

- Temporarily disable unrelated mods using the method recommended by your mod manager or their own instructions.
- Launch and check for the specific expected effect.
- If it works, restore other mods in small batches until the conflict returns; narrow down the last batch rather than changing several files at once.
This is a diagnostic approach, not a guaranteed fix. The available instructions do not establish a universal RDR2 build, launcher, or graphics-API requirement for every Mexico mod. Check the current page for your exact download.

Mexico or its map content is missing
Confirm that you installed a map mod rather than a minimap-only mod, then recheck that project’s current dependencies and the specified locations for its LML and ASI files. If the page describes the project as unfinished, missing or incomplete content may reflect its stated development status rather than an installation error.

Mexico does not appear on the minimap
For Mexico on Minimap, verify ScriptHookRDR2 and LML are installed as its page requires, and that its supplied lml folder is in the game directory as instructed.
The Mexico Expansion Project train has not appeared
The project’s documentation says it uses vanilla trains travelling from New Austin and does not spawn trains in Mexico itself. Allow time for a train to travel before treating its absence in Mexico as a failed installation.
The railway is doubled or piled up
The Mexico Expansion Project page says an older railway file may cause a duplicate and names RedDeadRedemption2/lml/!Mexico/YMAP/rr.ymap as the previous file to consider removing. Confirm that this applies to your installed version before deleting anything; do not treat this as a general fix for other Mexico mods.
The game crashes or shows errors
Recheck that you are using the current page for the exact mod and have installed its stated requirements correctly. The outdated Mexico Expansion Project page directs users with crashes or errors to contact the mod author, listed as Rixus724, after checking requirements. It does not give a universal crash remedy.
