To deploy an application on MicroK8s with Helm, enable its Helm 3 add-on, inspect the chart and its values, install it as a named release in a namespace, and verify the resulting Kubernetes resources. The commands below are workflow examples—not a tested transcript. Substitute a chart and settings suited to your application, and check the command options available in your installed MicroK8s and Helm versions.
What you need before installing a chart
This workflow assumes you have a running MicroK8s cluster, permission to use it, and a chart reference or repository for the application you intend to deploy. There is no single universal chart or configuration: requirements for storage, networking, credentials, resource sizing, and container images vary by workload.
Helm installs a chart as a named release. A namespace can scope that release and its Kubernetes resources. Helm’s v3 Quickstart Guide describes the cluster and Helm client prerequisites, while its v3 documentation covers chart installation and release management.
Check MicroK8s and enable Helm 3
MicroK8s uses add-ons to enable optional capabilities. Canonical documents checking add-on status with microk8s status and enabling one with microk8s enable addon in its command reference. For Helm, the Canonical add-on reference lists Helm and Helm 3 transition add-ons; the current core add-on manifest lists package version 3.18.6, but that mutable manifest is not a guarantee for every MicroK8s release. Check your own cluster’s output and available add-ons in the add-on reference.

microk8s helm3 versionSome MicroK8s releases expose the client through a different helper, such as microk8s helm. If the example command is unavailable, consult local help and the enabled add-ons instead of assuming every release has the same interface. Canonical’s command reference documents add-on management; Helm’s Kubernetes Distribution Guide also describes enabling Helm 3 on MicroK8s.
If enabling an add-on or using its client reports permission problems, check that your current user belongs to the microk8s group. Canonical notes this requirement for add-ons that install client tools such as Helm in its add-on management guide; the page is dated, so confirm behavior against your installed release.
Add and inspect the chart repository
Use the repository and chart name supplied by the chart maintainer. Adding a repository makes its charts available to Helm; updating refreshes the local repository metadata. Then inspect the chart metadata and default values before choosing configuration. Defaults are chart-specific and should not be treated as suitable for every cluster or as production-ready settings.

If the chart’s documentation recommends a different distribution method or a local chart path, follow that documentation. Choose chart settings and install in a namespace
Review the chart’s own current documentation for the settings that matter to the application, including credentials, persistence, ingress or other service exposure, image configuration, permissions, and resource requests. Put repeatable configuration in a YAML file you can review and maintain. Where repeatability matters, select and record an explicit chart version rather than relying on whichever version a repository currently serves.
Once the namespace and values file are ready, install the chart as a clearly named release. The command below includes --create-namespace; use it only if the installed Helm command supports that option. Check microk8s helm3 install --help or the equivalent local command when an option is uncertain.

--namespace NAMESPACE --create-namespace --values values.yamlHelm documents naming a release, choosing a namespace, and providing values through a YAML file or command-line overrides in its v3 cheat sheet. For a pinned chart version, add --version CHART_VERSION if the installed command supports it; the upgrade reference documents version selection and other options for its documented command version. Verify local help before copying flags, because option availability can vary by Helm version.
Verify the release and investigate problems
A completed Helm install does not by itself prove that the application is ready or reachable. Check the Helm release, then inspect the Kubernetes workloads and services in the same namespace:

microk8s kubectl get events --namespace NAMESPACEIf a workload is not ready, use its pod status and namespace events to narrow down the cause. Check whether images can be pulled, whether requested persistent volume claims are bound, and whether the service or ingress configuration exposes the application as intended. The relevant fix depends on the chart and cluster; do not interpret a release status alone as proof of application health.
Upgrade or roll back a Helm release
For a chart or configuration change, review the new chart version and values, then upgrade the existing release. Keep the release name and namespace consistent with the installation.

microk8s helm3 rollback RELEASE_NAME REVISION --namespace NAMESPACEUse the revision shown by the release history when rolling back. Helm’s upgrade reference documents options including --install, --create-namespace, --version, --values, and --rollback-on-failure; confirm that the relevant flags exist in your installed client before using them.
What this quick workflow does not guarantee
Helm streamlines installing and managing a chart, but the chart and cluster determine whether the resulting service is suitably configured. A local or single-node setup using host-path storage is not equivalent to resilient production storage. Choose storage, networking, access controls, credentials, and resource settings for the application and the reliability your environment requires.
