Its differentiator is high theoretical throughput across 15 W, 25 W, and 75 W card profiles, but real performance depends on the model, latency target, software stack, and power-measurement method.
What is Qualcomm Cloud AI 100?
Cloud AI 100 is Qualcomm’s inference-focused accelerator family for running trained AI models close to where data is generated or consumed. Qualcomm positioned it for cloud-edge deployments, enterprise servers, edge appliances, and 5G infrastructure, where predictable latency and a constrained power budget can matter more than graphics capability.
It is designed to execute inference rather than train large models. That makes it a different product category from a general-purpose consumer graphics card: the relevant questions are supported precisions, model throughput, latency, software compatibility, card power, and deployment density.
How many TOPS does Cloud AI 100 deliver?
Qualcomm and EE Times described the initial cards using “raw” TOPS. Raw TOPS is a theoretical operations-per-second maximum, not a promise that every application will achieve that throughput.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Card | Power profile | Advertised raw TOPS | Form-factor description |
|---|---|---|---|
| DM.2e | 15 W | More than 50 TOPS | Dual M.2 edge card |
| DM.2 | 25 W | 200 TOPS | Dual M.2 card |
| PCIe card | 75 W | About 400 TOPS | Full PCIe accelerator card |
The 15 W option targets compact edge systems, while the higher-power cards provide more accelerator capacity in servers or larger appliances. Application throughput can be lower than the raw figure because of model operators, memory movement, batching, host overhead, and latency constraints.
Cloud AI 100 architecture and specifications
- AI processors: up to 16 AI processor cores.
- Arithmetic: INT8, INT16, FP16, and FP32 support.
- Process technology: 7 nm FinFET.
- On-die memory: up to 144 MB of SRAM.
The mix of integer and floating-point formats lets a deployment choose between lower-precision efficiency and higher-precision model requirements. The amount of on-die SRAM can reduce some external-memory traffic, but it does not by itself establish end-to-end application performance or the total memory available in a host system.

What workloads and software does it support?
Qualcomm’s September 2020 software description listed support for TensorFlow, PyTorch, Caffe, GLOW, and ONNX. The suite included a compiler, simulator, runtimes, APIs, drivers, and development tools.
Those framework names indicate a route for deploying supported inference graphs, but they do not mean that every operator, model version, optimization, or precision mode performs equally well. Before purchase, an integrator should validate the exact model, preprocessing and postprocessing pipeline, batch size, latency target, and framework version on the intended card.

What does the performance-per-watt evidence show?
Published results are encouraging, but they are vendor submissions tied to particular MLPerf rules and system configurations rather than a universal guarantee.
| Evidence | Reported result | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Qualcomm MLPerf Inference 1.0 report, May 13, 2021 | Up to 70% better performance per watt for some data-center inference workloads | “Up to” applies to selected workloads; it is not an all-model average. |
| Qualcomm MLPerf Inference v3.0 report, April 2023 | 315 inference/s/W for ResNet-50 and 5.9 inference/s/W for RetinaNet | Qualcomm claimed more than a 2× advantage over the nearest competition for the cited comparisons. |
| EE Times follow-up on a 16-accelerator system | Approximately 310,000 ResNet-50 inferences per second in server mode and 342,000 offline | These are reported system results; they should not be read as single-card throughput. |
Qualcomm’s April 2019 launch announcement also claimed more than 10× the performance per watt of the most advanced AI inference solutions deployed at that time. That was a Qualcomm claim from 2019, not an independently established result that applies to every competitor or workload.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
How should you compare Cloud AI 100 with Nvidia or another accelerator?
A fair comparison keeps the benchmark conditions aligned. A higher TOPS number or a lower card wattage alone cannot establish better application performance.
- Model and operators: use the same network, input shape, preprocessing, and postprocessing.
- Batch size and latency target: distinguish single-stream or low-latency service from throughput-oriented batching.
- Precision: compare the same INT8, INT16, FP16, or FP32 mode and confirm any accuracy impact.
- Power method: identify whether the figure covers the accelerator, the complete card, or the full host system.
- System scale: record the number of accelerators, host CPU, memory, and interconnect.
- Software stack: include compiler version, runtime, drivers, graph optimizations, and framework support.
EE Times reported criticism that Qualcomm’s MLPerf submissions did not cover every workload. The practical conclusion is to compare the exact MLPerf division, model, latency rule, system size, and power methodology instead of treating one favorable result as a general ranking. Cloud AI 100’s value proposition is most compelling when inference efficiency and an edge power budget dominate; broader workload coverage, absolute peak performance, or a more mature software ecosystem may change the result.

Can you buy a Qualcomm Cloud AI 100 card?
Qualcomm’s September 2020 announcement said Cloud AI 100 was shipping to select worldwide customers and that commercial products were expected in the first half of 2021. Qualcomm also presented an Edge Development Kit. Those announcements support an enterprise procurement or systems-integration route, not an ordinary consumer-retail listing.
Pricing, current inventory, replacement products, and authorized partner channels are not established by the cited announcements. A prospective buyer should contact Qualcomm or an authorized system integrator and confirm the exact card, power profile, software release, support terms, and lead time for the deployment region.
Who is Cloud AI 100 best suited for?
- Edge appliance builders: the 15 W and 25 W profiles can fit systems where cooling and electrical capacity are limited.
- Enterprise inference operators: the PCIe profile provides a higher-throughput option for server deployments.
- 5G and near-edge infrastructure teams: local inference can reduce the need to send every input to a distant cloud.
- Teams requiring a specific Qualcomm software path: the listed frameworks and deployment tools provide an integration starting point, subject to model validation.
It is a weaker fit if the primary requirement is consumer graphics, broad GPU application compatibility, model training, or a purchase that can be made through standard retail channels.
