Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →If a Puppeteer screenshot still shows a cookie consent wall after you click “Accept,” the click may have completed before the site finished dismissing the banner, or it may have triggered navigation that your script missed. Treat clicking, waiting for the site’s response, verifying the page, and taking the screenshot as separate steps.
Why the consent wall remains in the screenshot
page.click() completing only tells you Puppeteer carried out the click; it does not establish that the consent flow has finished or that the intended content is visible. The site may reload or redirect after acceptance, dismiss the banner in the current document, or save consent state that matters only on a later page load.
The correct fix depends on which behavior the target site uses. Its URL, live DOM, accept-button selector, and consent-storage mechanism are not specified here, so confirm them on the page rather than assuming a universal selector or cookie name.
Fix the click-and-screenshot sequence
1. Find the real accept control
Inspect the target page’s live DOM and identify the actual consent button. Confirm that the selector matches the intended control—not a similarly named button—and whether the control is inside an iframe. Puppeteer’s page.click(selector) requires a matching element; if none matches, it throws. No single selector works across consent managers.

2. If acceptance navigates, wait for navigation and click together
When the button reloads or redirects the document, start both operations before awaiting either. Puppeteer warns that awaiting a click separately from its navigation wait can create a race.
const acceptSelector = 'REPLACE_WITH_THE_ACCEPT_BUTTON_SELECTOR';
const [response] = await Promise.all([
page.waitForNavigation({ waitUntil: 'domcontentloaded' }),
page.click(acceptSelector),
]);
Replace the selector with one verified on the target site. Choose a navigation condition that fits the page: waiting for networkidle can be unsuitable when a site keeps connections open or continuously makes requests. The navigation wait is only appropriate if the click actually causes a navigation.

3. If the page does not navigate, wait for a meaningful state
Many consent interfaces hide or rerender their banner without a document navigation. Wait for an outcome that proves the page changed, such as the consent element becoming hidden or the expected page content appearing. Puppeteer provides selector-based waits, but the correct selector and condition are site-specific.
const acceptSelector = 'REPLACE_WITH_THE_ACCEPT_BUTTON_SELECTOR';
const consentSelector = 'REPLACE_WITH_THE_CONSENT_BANNER_SELECTOR';
await page.click(acceptSelector);
await page.waitForSelector(consentSelector, { hidden: true });
If the banner is removed from the DOM rather than hidden, a hidden-selector wait can also resolve when the element is absent. If that does not describe the site’s behavior, wait for a different observable result—for example, a known content selector becoming visible.

4. Verify the page, then capture it
Before capturing, check that the consent wall is gone and the intended page content is present. Then take the screenshot:
await page.screenshot({ path: 'result.png' });

const acceptSelector = 'REPLACE_WITH_THE_ACCEPT_BUTTON_SELECTOR';
await page.goto('https://example.com', { waitUntil: 'domcontentloaded' });
await Promise.all([
page.waitForNavigation({ waitUntil: 'domcontentloaded' }),
page.click(acceptSelector),
]);
// Replace this with a selector that confirms the expected page is visible.
await page.waitForSelector('REPLACE_WITH_EXPECTED_CONTENT_SELECTOR', {
visible: true,
});
await page.screenshot({ path: 'result.png' });
If acceptance does not navigate, use the same flow but replace the navigation wait with the site-specific state wait shown above. A screenshot call captures the page’s current state; it does not itself confirm that the consent workflow succeeded.
Check whether consent persists across reloads
If the banner disappears but returns after a reload or in a new page, investigate persistence as a separate issue. Check cookies in the relevant browser context and consider other storage or consent-manager behavior. Do not assume every site stores consent in a cookie, or that one cookie name applies everywhere.
Puppeteer’s cookie guide documents getting, setting, and deleting cookies by manipulating browser storage. Use the browser or browser-context cookie methods: Puppeteer documents its page-level cookie API as deprecated. Which context and state to inspect depends on how the site records consent.

Troubleshooting symptoms
- The click throws that no element matches: Recheck the live DOM and selector; confirm the control is not inside an iframe that needs separate handling.
- The screenshot catches the banner during a reload: If acceptance triggers navigation, start
page.waitForNavigation()andpage.click()together withPromise.all. - The click resolves, but the banner is still visible: Wait for a site-specific UI outcome, such as the banner becoming hidden or expected content appearing, before calling
page.screenshot(). - A wait for network idle never completes: Choose a more suitable navigation condition or wait for a relevant selector instead; long-lived connections and ongoing requests can make network-idle waits unsuitable.
- The banner returns after reload or in another page: Inspect consent persistence in the browser context and the site’s other storage behavior. A successful dismissal on one page does not establish that consent will persist.
- The wait succeeds, but the screenshot still looks wrong: Verify that the wait targets the intended banner or page content and that the screenshot is taken after that condition resolves.
Or skip the browser setup
If your goal is a clean website capture rather than debugging consent behavior in your own Puppeteer flow, ScreenshotNeo offers a screenshot API and MCP server. A single GET request can return an image or PDF. Its capture flow accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each of those steps can be turned off.
For a quick capture, replace the example URL with the page you need and put your API key in place of YOUR_API_KEY:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing; each response reports the page verdict and billing status in X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents and MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.
