Puppeteer can generate PDFs in named paper formats such as Letter and A4, or in custom dimensions. Use the format option for a listed size; use width and height for a custom size. If the page defines its own size with CSS @page, set preferCSSPageSize to decide whether that CSS size or the PDF options take priority.
Which paper sizes does Puppeteer support?
Puppeteer’s PDFOptions.format accepts the named formats below. Dimensions are the figures in the Puppeteer PaperFormat reference, version 25.12.0 at retrieval; treat them as Puppeteer’s API values, not as independent printer or standards guidance. See the Puppeteer PaperFormat reference.

How do I set A4 or Letter?
Pass the format name to page.pdf(). The option is named format; use Puppeteer’s documented format spelling, such as 'A4' or 'Letter'.

})();Replace 'A4' with 'Letter' or another listed format as needed. If you omit format, Puppeteer documents Letter as the default. When both format and explicit dimensions are provided, format takes priority over width and height.

How do custom PDF dimensions work?
For a size not in the named list, provide both width and height. Each accepts a number or a string with a unit. Explicit units make the intended measurement clear.

});This example sets page dimensions directly. Do not also pass format if you intend the custom dimensions to control the page size, because the named format wins when both are supplied. The accepted PDF option behavior is documented in Puppeteer’s PDFOptions interface.

Should CSS @page or Puppeteer options control the size?
A page can declare a paper size in print CSS, for example with an @page rule. Puppeteer’s preferCSSPageSize determines whether that declaration takes priority over the dimensions or format in the PDF options. Its default is false; in that case Puppeteer scales page content to fit the selected paper size.

});Set this to true when the document’s own @page rule should determine the paper size. Leave it false when the size passed to Puppeteer should control the output and the content should be fitted to it. The option’s priority behavior is described in the PDFOptions reference.

Which other PDF options affect the result?
landscapeswitches orientation; its default isfalse. It does not change which named formats exist.margincontrols page margins; the documented default is none.scalescales the page content, defaults to1, and accepts values from0.1to2.printBackgroundincludes background graphics when enabled; its default isfalse.
These options change how content is presented on the page; they do not replace selecting the page dimensions. Consult the PDFOptions reference for the complete option details.
Why does the PDF look different from the browser?
page.pdf() uses print CSS media by default. If the page is designed for screen media and you want that styling for the PDF, switch media before generating it:
