If a Puppeteer full-page screenshot cuts off the bottom of a CSS Grid, first check whether the bottom row is part of the document’s measured height. The available evidence does not establish CSS Grid itself as the cause. Confirm that fullPage: true is set, compare the document and grid dimensions, then investigate clipping, viewport-dependent layout, timing, and the exact Puppeteer and Chromium versions.
Confirm Puppeteer is capturing the full page
Puppeteer’s current ScreenshotOptions documentation describes fullPage as taking a screenshot of the full page when true; its default is false. Make the intent explicit:
await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: true });
The separate captureBeyondViewport option is not a substitute for checking the document’s layout extent. Changing it blindly will not establish why content is missing.

Before changing CSS, record whether the page’s layout actually extends as far as the bottom row. Replace the selectors below with selectors from your page:

- CRISP CLARITY: This 23.8″ Philips V line monitor delivers crisp Full HD 1920x1080 visuals. Enjoy movies, shows and videos with remarkable detail
- INCREDIBLE CONTRAST: The VA panel produces brighter whites and deeper blacks. You get true-to-life images and more gradients with 16.7 million colors
- THE PERFECT VIEW: The 178/178 degree extra wide viewing angle prevents the shifting of colors when viewed from an offset angle, so you always get consistent colors

const measurements = await page.evaluate(() => {
const grid = document.querySelector('.grid');
const rows = grid?.querySelectorAll('.grid-row');
const lastRow = rows?.[rows.length - 1];
const rect = (element) => {
if (!element) return null;
const r = element.getBoundingClientRect();
return { top: r.top, bottom: r.bottom, height: r.height };
};
return {
documentElementScrollHeight: document.documentElement.scrollHeight,
bodyScrollHeight: document.body.scrollHeight,
grid: rect(grid),
lastRow: rect(lastRow),
devicePixelRatio: window.devicePixelRatio
};
});
console.log(measurements);
Compare the last row’s document position with the document’s scroll height. getBoundingClientRect() reports viewport-relative coordinates, so add the current scroll offset if you need a document-relative position. Also compare the screenshot’s pixel dimensions with the page dimensions, allowing for the device scale factor.
- If the bottom row falls beyond the measured document extent, investigate layout, overflow, and clipping before blaming screenshot capture.
- If the document extent includes the row but the image does not, reproduce the capture with the exact options and browser/library versions you use in deployment.
This is a diagnostic method, not a confirmed fix for every missing-grid-bottom report.
Inspect the grid’s layout and clipping chain
Check the grid and its ancestors—not only the grid element—for properties or structures that can constrain what is visible or contribute to page height:

- Fixed or maximum heights that prevent the container from growing with its content.
overflow: hiddenor another clipping rule.- Nested scroll containers whose content scrolls independently of the document.
- Absolutely or fixed-positioned content that does not extend normal document flow.
- Viewport-relative dimensions such as
vh, which may produce different results when the viewport changes.
These are investigation leads, not proof of a CSS Grid defect. Historical Puppeteer reports describe viewport-sensitive and overflow-related screenshot edge cases, but they do not identify one universal cause for this symptom.
Wait for the grid’s actual data and layout
Take the screenshot only after your application has reached the state that guarantees the grid and its content are ready. A navigation wait such as waitUntil: 'networkidle2' can be useful, as shown in Puppeteer’s screenshot guide, but network quiet alone does not prove that client-side rendering or asynchronous data work has finished.
Prefer an application-specific readiness signal, such as waiting for the final row or a loading indicator to disappear:

await page.goto('https://example.com/report', { waitUntil: 'networkidle2' });
await page.waitForSelector('.grid .grid-row:last-child');
await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: true });
Adapt the selector to the page, and use a readiness condition that reflects the data you need—not merely the existence of an initial, possibly empty grid.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhen to try an element screenshot
Puppeteer provides ElementHandle.screenshot() for capturing one target element and documents that it attempts to scroll a hidden element into view. It can be useful when the grid itself is the intended output, but do not assume it can capture an arbitrarily tall element: an older Puppeteer issue reports clipping beyond the viewport.
const grid = await page.$('.grid');
if (!grid) throw new Error('Grid not found');
await grid.screenshot({ path: 'grid.png' });
Inspect the resulting image dimensions and verify the last row is present. If the grid is taller than the viewport, test this behavior with your specific version and page rather than treating element capture as a guaranteed workaround.

Test viewport changes cautiously
Increasing the viewport can be a useful experiment when an element exceeds it, but it can also change the page being captured. Viewport size may trigger media queries or resize-event logic, producing a different grid layout. An issue author who reported viewport enlargement as a workaround also noted these possible side effects. Compare the layout before and after resizing; do not adopt a larger viewport as a fix without checking that it preserves the intended rendering.

Historical issue discussions describe screenshot behavior changing with Chromium-related changes and particular Puppeteer versions. One discussion says that, following upstream Chromium changes, page.screenshot clipped elements to the viewport as of Puppeteer v2.0.0. That is historical issue context—not a rule that predicts every current version or configuration.
Record the Puppeteer and Chromium versions used both locally and in the environment where the failure occurs. If the measurements do not isolate the problem, reduce the page to a reproducible case and include:

The available evidence does not identify this exact CSS Grid case as a known bug or establish a single root cause. A minimal reproduction helps distinguish an application layout issue from a version-specific capture behavior.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does fullPage: true fix a grid that is clipped by CSS?
No. It requests a full-page screenshot, but it does not by itself resolve layout constraints or clipping. Measure the document and grid bounds to locate the issue.
Is increasing Puppeteer’s viewport a reliable permanent fix?
Not necessarily. Resizing can change media-query results and trigger application resize behavior, so verify that the page still renders as intended.
