Puppeteer supplies browser launch arguments for you. To inspect them, call puppeteer.defaultArgs(options); to add a flag, use args; to remove selected defaults, use ignoreDefaultArgs. Avoid setting ignoreDefaultArgs: true unless you intentionally want to suppress the entire default set.
How to inspect Puppeteer’s default browser arguments
The documented public API for inspecting the defaults is puppeteer.defaultArgs(options). It returns a string[] of launch arguments for the options you pass. The API documentation is for Puppeteer 25.12.0; check the output from the Puppeteer version installed in your project, because the result depends on launch options and version. console.log(args);For an ES module, use import puppeteer from 'puppeteer'; in place of the require line. Pass the launch options you are investigating to defaultArgs; inspecting an empty options object may not represent a launch configured with other options.
Adding a flag is different from changing defaults
LaunchOptions.args adds command-line arguments. It does not mean “replace Puppeteer’s defaults.” If you only need to pass an extra browser flag, keep the defaults and add it through args:

How to remove one or more default arguments
Use ignoreDefaultArgs with an array when you need Puppeteer to omit particular defaults. The official example removes --mute-audio:

});This filters the named argument from the defaults; it does not suppress every default. The documented default for ignoreDefaultArgs is false. Puppeteer cautions: “Use this with care – you probably want the default arguments Puppeteer uses.” Use selective removal for a specific need rather than as a routine launch setting.
What happens with ignoreDefaultArgs: true?
Setting it to true suppresses Puppeteer’s default arguments. That is a broader change than passing an array, which filters only the specified arguments. Do not assume that wholesale suppression is a harmless optimization; use it only when you intend to manage the resulting argument set yourself.

Browser choice and compatibility
Puppeteer’s launch options list Chrome as the default browser. Puppeteer works best with the Chrome for Testing binary it downloads by default and does not guarantee compatibility with other Chrome versions. If you set a custom executablePath, the documentation recommends setting the browser property as well, since Chrome is otherwise the default. See the launch method documentation and LaunchOptions.
With puppeteer-core, provide either executablePath or channel. Choosing a custom executable or channel is separate from choosing launch arguments: the former selects the browser binary, while args and ignoreDefaultArgs affect the arguments passed at launch.

Troubleshooting argument issues
- You cannot find a flag in a list online: lists may describe another Puppeteer release, browser, or option combination. Run
defaultArgsfrom the installed package with the options relevant to your launch. - Your custom flag did not replace a default:
argsadds arguments. To omit a specific default, useignoreDefaultArgswith that argument in an array. - Launch behavior changes after setting
ignoreDefaultArgs: true: that setting suppresses the whole default argument set. Return to the default (false) or filter only the specific argument you mean to remove. puppeteer-corecannot select a browser: provideexecutablePathorchannel.- A custom Chrome version behaves differently: Puppeteer guarantees compatibility with its bundled browser, not arbitrary Chrome versions. Try the downloaded Chrome for Testing binary when compatibility is important.
- You are using a browser-launcher package rather than Puppeteer’s Node API: check the documentation for the API actually in your code; browser-launcher options and Puppeteer’s
LaunchOptionsare not interchangeable.
