Use msg.location() inside a Puppeteer page’s console event handler to get the message’s source URL, line, and column when available. The line and column are zero-based, and any of the location fields may be undefined.
Get a console message’s source location
Puppeteer dispatches ConsoleMessage objects through the page’s console event. Call location() on the message to retrieve its primary source location. The API reference currently displays Puppeteer 25.12.0; use the reference that matches the version installed in your project.

What the location fields mean
location() returns an object, not a formatted string. Its fields describe the source position when Puppeteer knows it:

For example, a lineNumber of 0 refers to the first line, and a columnNumber of 0 refers to the first column. If you present these values in an editor or log format that counts from one, add one deliberately for display; retain the original values if your code needs Puppeteer’s coordinates. The ConsoleMessageLocation interface reference documents these optional properties. Its displayed documentation version is 25.3.0, while the ConsoleMessage class page displays 25.12.0.
When to use location() or stackTrace()

They are separate methods on ConsoleMessage. The class reference documents both location() and stackTrace(); the latter is not a replacement for the primary location object.

Handle missing coordinates safely
Do not assume every message maps to a known source line. Check for absent values before formatting a location or linking to source code:

});This example converts known coordinates to one-based line and column numbers only for human-readable display. It leaves the URL intact and avoids printing made-up coordinates when Puppeteer does not provide them. The underlying type declarations also mark the location values as optional: Puppeteer type declarations.

Troubleshoot confusing locations
- The displayed line seems off by one: Puppeteer numbers lines and columns from zero. Convert to one-based values only when displaying them to people.
- A URL or coordinate is missing: the location data is optional. Treat
undefinedas unavailable rather than coercing it to zero or an empty source. - You need more context than one position: inspect
msg.stackTrace()for the message’s stack-location array. - The event is not limited to log calls: the page’s
consoleevent can also be emitted for page errors and warnings, so inspectmsg.type()andmsg.text()alongside location data.
